    Shure V15-V

I have a M91ED on my everyday TT. Not a bad cart at all. But no special, either. It gives a clear sound, on the bright side but it lacks somehow on the details. It can't stand against my other TT's Stanton 681EEE. (both TT are exactly the same)

    Adjusting signal with resistor

Maybe it's the service manual that is wrong. It happens. At theses decks (different models of the same era), the calibration procedure is the same so all the directions are quite similar and copy-paste. If you see the instructions of all this generation decks you will understand what I'm saying...

    Adjusting signal with resistor

I think that Technics calibration procedure is quite different at these models. It doesn't counting on test points on the pcb but on the output voltages. So, they don't care about the Dolby chips voltage. Somewhere on the design they made a wrong calculation. On purpose or by fault, I truly...

    Wire on the stylus

I was examining the original stylus of my Shure and Stanton cartridges. Both they have a thin wire that it's one side is soldered on the stylus case and the other on the cantilever. What's the purpose of this wire? Is it part of the suspension or it connects electrically the cantilever with...

    Head groove-o-mania

One definitely can lap (even relap) a permalloy head with ease. Since I lapped my first head (a same as Alex's from a 965) I then lapped all my 3-headers. Never regret it. Although my approach is a little bit different, the result is the same. And exceptional.

    Opamp replacement

Hello! I had a chatting with a local engineer the other day and he insisted that the Technics sl-pg500a/520a could sound better if their line-out 4560 was replaced with a fet opamp. What's your opinion?

Should I use an rca splitter?

Should I use an rca splitter?

All my decks are 3-headers. But as a final solution, I can exclude one of these 3 decks from the playback chain. What is more important to me is the recording. This particular system is my recording system. So, I need to have both these 3 decks connected to the recording chain. Using an rca...

Should I use an rca splitter?

@J!m if I understand correctly what you mean, it all has to do with the impedances. The input should have high impedance while the output should have low impedance. Feeding from one's deck output the input of the amp (high imp) will also feed the other's deck input (low imp) so the overall input...

Should I use an rca splitter?

Hello Phoenix! Well, I need to connect a third deck on my integrated amp but this particular amp has only two tape loops. Using rca splitter cables is a good idea? Or it will degrade the sound? I need to split both the playback and recording lines. Thanks!

Very good article! Thanks! One sad conclusion: today, nobody uses true analog mastering.

    Last generation Maxell UR

Don't know if it has been written before - I'm quite lazy to search!!! I'm talking about the last generations of the UR. What I understand is that there were 3 different versions around the world. I have a Malaysian tape. I took a photo of mine. Although I have a good quantity of these, I...

    Adjusting signal with resistor

I preferred to put the 5534 on that position. I found it easy to solder a dip on a sip row of pins. Now, my 5534 can be removed and reinstalled like a sip opamp. @Skywavebe I'm the last person who could take measurements. But to my ears it makes difference. Edit: they don't make the ne5532 in...

What practical use should such a needle have on regular records?

    How a stereo cartridge works

Well, when I was a kid and started to understand the stereo audio, I was curious how a single needle can transfer two signals. I was a rookie (and still I am) and some pathetic maths like L+R or L-R didn't meant anything to me... Ah, my youth... Anyway, maths can't be heard but I was...
