Evidently his Carver stuff was wounded. Any 700 should have danced ALL OVER the 3B he has. Hell, a 400 probably would.

Did ya catch my conversation with TAC?
Yep... I was so sorely tempted to help stir the shit but you know what they say about too many cooks...

His Bryston is only 120w per channel, a 400 would crush it like a cheap beer can under it's feet, a 700 would blow it into metal filings LOL

EDIT: I am not trashing the Bryston, they are very well made for PRO amps but they are not even in the same league as the mighty WOPL's. My neighbor uses a 3B for his haunted house sound system with a few cheap but loud PRO speakers and it does thump

Had a 4B myself, too sterile, like the Spec 2. That 4B was the first lottery amp....

After hearing what you said about the Bryston amp Lee, I dont think I would even bother to give one a listen. Bryston is based here where I live in Peterborough. Lots of those things flying around town on Kijiji all the time.

My cousin had a spec pre. He sold it though.

I have 2 Spec 1's and they'll go to my grave with me.....love em. Especially after the Echowars upgrades. He knows his Spec shit. The Spec 2's aren't bad amps eother, but after hearing these WOPL's there's no going back. YOU KNOW you're missing something and it's just not tolerable...

His Spec pre amp didnt have any upgrades. I personally disliked it. Sounded dull and lifeless. Which is why he sold it. He made a good chunk of change off of it though. Funded his purchase of a new(to him) pre amp.

EW suggests a power supply upgrade, a bagful of audio grade caps to change out and modern small signal transistor.Very neutral, very clean, absolutely dead quiet.

My biggest personal dislike of those units was the volume knob. Not sure what theyre called but I didnt like the way they work. Almost like a switch clicking from position to position.

That's a detended pot. One of the most close tolerant pot Alps ever made. Can still be bought------for 430.00. It's tracking specs are phenomenal.

Yep, about as good as you can possibly get. A lot of the higher Pioneer stuff had them IIRC

Laser etched resistive elements on a ceramic base ,and just overall killer quality. I've had some opened up and was just amazed at how much wor went into them. VERY precision stuff.

Interesting.

That one simple feature turned me off the Spec pre's.

And possibly theeir best feature. Coupled with the -15, -30 db attentuator switch you could find whatever level you wanted with extreme resolution.
