I've totally lost the plot....
Well, I came across a very beaten up Nakamichi 700 today. Should have it in a week.
Don't know if it works or not, as it suffered a tragedy and fell off it's perch one day, causing a bit of damage. (well that's my theory, judging from closely scrutinising some pics of it.)
It was found in a storage locker along with some other audio bits, so who knows if it works or not. I do know that it powers up OK, and the meters flick briefly when done so, but no tapes have been tried to test it's functions. I'll know more eventually.
I'm dreading the worst tho' when I get it, even tho' I had one of these years ago, and it suffered a similar fate, and went on working fine for a long time, before it eventually caught fire! (... but that's another story.)
Anyway, see how it goes. (fingers x-ed)

Very nice and why not, get another toy to play with. Keep the fire hose ready just in case. How much did you pay? Let me guess....$0 ? =)

no, a little more than that D2, but it was cheap enough to take the chance.
they're a pretty tuff machine, but being the ever-pessimistic person that i am, i'm (quietly) hoping for a pleasant surprise for a change.
there's someone stripping one of these for parts at the moment in Canada, but his postage charges to Oz are very high.
if i should need something he has, by any chance, at least there's that option.
we'll see in good time.

been messin' with my very vintage (early 70's i think) B&W DM3's, (at the front).
they really are an extremely nice speaker of the highest order, and compare favourably to the Spendor SP1's. (.... that's if any of you know wot they are.)
anyway, here's a pic....

For a while there I thought the aspect ratio of the image was way out, but those speakers are actually oval shaped, interesting. Big storms heading this way, hopefully not too much hail.

Here's a couple of pics of my New Rek-O-Kut dustbug record cleaner. Same as my old one but includes all the proper parts (earth wire/adjustable height fixing), its actually as high as it will go but still works great.

yeh, they're bloody weird at 13"x8" but the bass (20Hz) to the hi-mids is extremely smooth.

.... so, can you go fishing with that thing D2?

Well, once upon a time, there was a man (Spencer) and his wife (Dorothy), and they thought to themselves "hey, let's make some speakers".
So they did.....
.... and everybody lived happily ever after, until they died of old age. (pretty much like wot we're all doin' here.)

Oh, and yeh, they built some speakers called Spendor SP1 and BC1, and everybody luved 'em and still does.

Google the rest....... Heh heh heh.....

Yes I can, just caught a bunch of microscopic dust particles with it while playing a record :bounce:

Well at the moment I'm listening to the first two tracks of Ineffable Mysteries From Shpongleland on the Yamaha CD player. Needed a quick Shpongle fix. Going to put some dinner on, am late for bed. With these JBLs 4311b's I feel I need to be in the centre listening position so I hear absolutely everything, very captivating.

.... added a pair of very vintage Klein and Hummel 2-way speakers to the 4th layer of the setup.
That's them on top of the 'oval' B&W DM3's.
Running them off my little valve amp (The BEAN).

Sound just lovely.....

... getting a bit crowded, but wot the heck!
:confused2:

I'm looking at some beautiful real-time rendered graphical demos on the PC synced to their own soundtracks. Have not done this in a while. Due to the real-time rendering done on the Cpu/Videocard this can draw up to 420 watts of power during complex scenes. This Nvidia GTX 680 graphic card sure has some grunt.

This eye candy sure has the graphics card pegged, glad I had the fans cranked up to 80%, especially with a significant overclock. Have seen temps heading towards 80c before but this one kept its cool peaking at 54c.
