Another great tape among my favourites is DL from Hitachi, obviously Maxell related and a very good sounding superferric, it has very nice crisp trebles, maybe better than many other regular typeII's.

pic not mine.

When do you let yourself know that you know?

Do you think they are a better sounding Normal Position tape than Maxell UR or TDK D series?

OK i'll have to keep them in mind when I am on the prowl for new Tapes. Right now I have a large cache of casseiie tapes. I have a huge amount of Maxell UR which I understand is not so great lately. You can't push it too far.

I used them a lot and i can guarantee they are very good, also you can try this version which is infact the same but transparent version shell and they are also great.

I don't know about them, i know about recent HF's from Sony which are good and i can push them at +3 with no problem and they also have greater sensitivity. Someone says it's the same tape with the UR's, who knows...

Great looking pictures, Miles. One of my favouite Type II cassettes to use for recording are the Sony UX-Pro with ceramic guide blocks. I need to find more of them. I'm guessing the TDK SA-X would be one of your favourite Type IIs? Your recordings on those tapes are top-notch.

Nando.

As far as Maxell UR cassettes, I found a few of these in sealed condition, and recorded a jazz mix tape for TH member, ianC90. I haven't tried recording on the current Maxell UR tape, but I did receive a current-release Maxell UR 90, with progressive rock titles, recorded by TH member, Arnold Layne. And I was duly impressed. He recorded with his Nakamichi Dragon.

There were some strange rumours about white powder being on the tape of the CDing METAL versions.

White powder?

Hmmmmmm... Can't get enough of it!

I used those early maxell green UR tapes in my teens and they were always good. They had a very smooth mechanism and never wound tight in the multiple cassette machines I used them in. Great looking shell too, one of my personal favorites.
