We used tension arms that were linked together by a single extension spring to form the tape tension. A position control servo would maintain proper positioning of the tension arms. On start stop transients, the tension arms would move in tandem, thus the tape tension was maintained as constant (except for the acceleration of the mass of the tension arms, which were hogged out magnesium for low mass)
That would be greatly appreciated Mr. Joe. I have a 2000 Ser II that is that way. Haven't looked through my parts yet. Used to have some 4739's. Taiwan and indonesia sourced.
Too bad Brown Dog hasn't come up with an adapter board to replace this IC.
When searching I noticed a couple of references to a guy in Milwaukee. His place of business is named ACEffects and based on what I read he made or had someone make a drop in replacement potted hybrid for the 4739 dual opamp IC.
I would be dead bugging a much better op amp in that board location. It is a 14 pin DIP so should be straightforward to do. Put a socket in the location and use the DIP headers to hold the dead bug, looks neat and allows going back to stock later on.
OK, standard sockets won't do eh?? What's your recommendation for a replacement?? Then take the dead bug pinouts and run them to the Original pins on the socket they correspond to??
