Gibsonian's Cherry Pl 700 Ser I, soon to be a PLWO-1000

Just great Scott. She'll be headed your way once the cabbage case gets back.

Great news. She really gave you a tussle, as usual. Sorry bout that. You don't like my box?

Curious to know what all was causing the troubles and how you addressed it inside of Cathy.

I was causing the troubles. Too many hours in the field, then trying to guide probes while shaking like a leaf. Hum an d noise originating in my test set-up in the rack was good for a couple days of hair pulling. And your box was great, but it's no longer here.

A warranty deal should have a quicker turnaround, we'll do better on the next one , which shouldn't be yours.

Yes, I'm betting I am good to go until or just past old man city for me and Cathy. She'll hold up better than I likely.

Finally going to recap the Spec 1 Lee, can you look over parts list on the AK thread regarding this subject and tell me if I should change or add anything before I make the order from Mouser? Would really appreciate it.

Here's EW's list from a few years ago. He denotes Blackgates, but Silmic II's and the Muse are fine. The BiPolar were not stocked at Mouser.. This is where I got mine---http://www.hndme.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=40 Do the new transisor thing while you are in there. I had done one of my 1's without doing that and one with, a very audible difference. I have atranny list around here with MTF's recommended replacements.

Check out my "Chris' Spec 1 Restoration" . There's a few tips in there that might save you some frustration.

Thanks, I will check it out. If I remember when I first got my spec 1 I opened it up and it looked like a bear to recap - that is just getting it apart to desolder/solder the boards.

So on EW's list, only 2 bipolar values in it, right (10 total BP caps)? Also, blow money on fancy caps that have the asterik by them, right?

I do plan on replacing transistors as well.

Great, Scott look over my Spec 1 thread. There are pics of how i cable tied the upper boards out of the way to get to the lower ones thereby not flexing them too many times to start breaking those solid wires. Good luck Bud. You'll be totally floored the first time you fire it up and it will keep getting better for about a month.

Yes, only 2 values of Bo-polars, 4.7 and 33 I believe.

Three nights a ago Cathy started getting severe distortion on the left channel. I have chased it all over the board for the last 3 nights and am no closer to finding it than I was when I started. there were numerous slips of the probe this time too, so many I do not trust the reliability of the SECOND board. Thus, the THIRD board was just finished. It's a beauty. Don't know what it is about this particular amp, but it took 3 boards last time too.

Cathy will now get the outputs stripped, heatsinks cleaned, sockets lifted and inspected too make sure there are no whiskers, or cut off leads that will short things out after a hard ride back to Scott. New grease and new mica insulators too. Gonna give it every chance in the world. The only thing it won't get is that HARD WEEK of testing that goes on here. Promised this to be shipped by tomorrow morning. Jani's got my favorite coffee going. We're going in
