what are you listening to?

I just received this LP as a gift from my nephew.
He bought this 2019 version, and knew that I would also like it, so he purchased another for me.
I have the original 1962 Mono release, Herbie Hancocks’ debut album.
My nephew is the guy that I built one of my 700b’s for when he graduated with his Masters
Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He wanted to hear this version on the Model ONE. (The “WOW” Machine).
I opened it, and to both our surprise, it was White vinyl. I cannot find any of these that are listed as being pressed on White vinyl, so this appears to be an odd one. He bought it in a local record shop, same place as he got his version, also 80th anniversary of Blue Note, pressed in Germany, but his is Black vinyl.
He was indeed impressed, as was I, at the superb detail through the Model ONE. The Model One is simply amazing !! Personally, I am not a fan of colored vinyl, but have it on LP’s back into the late 40’s, I will always go out of my way to get a black vinyl copy of an LP. If they are dirty/dusty etc, it’s just easier to see on black vinyl. This is a super nice pressing of a great LP. Freddie Hubbard is on Trumpet, and Dexter Gordon on Sax. My nephew did “borrow” my original 1962 version….and I do not loan any of my recordings out as a rule. His 700b has not missed a beat since I built it for him with the full WOPL treatment.

Set the wayback machine to The Who - Live at the Oval, London. 24/96 download of the 1971 concert, which was finally released after all the bootlegs made it famous. The show introduced Who's Next with three cuts. Magic Bus and the de rigueur smashing of instruments closes it out, as always. The sound is quite good considering the age of the tapes.

Also John Fogerty's Legacy, where he pulls a Taylor Swift and rerecorded all his originals after getting the rights back. His kids acquit themselves really well if you enjoy CCR. Another new 24/96 download.

Have to get DG's Beethoven Symphonies with Leonard Bernstein conducting the Vienna Philharmonic - the 2018 DG/Bernstein estate collaboration which remastered his 1963 cycle. It's finally out as a 24/192 download after several years as a DVD/CD combo only. At least at Pro Studio Masters. Be curious to compare to the von Karajan cycle that's as flat as a pancake, sound-wise.
