what are you listening to?

Looks like a double lp Toscannini Greatest Hits package from who knows when. First real RCA shaded dogs I've acquired - I can hear what the fuss is about, in spite of ticks and pops. Note the price in the upper left corner. Thrift store find in Edmonton. There were maybe 15 classical albums among a ton of Mantovani and Tennessee Ernie Ford.

Nothing ventured, noting gained. Must start searching for better examples of the breed.

Snagged a copy of Spirit's Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus at another thrift along the way. First copy I've seen in years. Tried a couple of needle drops on it - the vinyl is in much better shape than the cover, for once. Need to listen through the entire album later to see what kind of shape it's in.

After this mother of a week, I figured it's time for some Larceny and Cannonball.

There's a Sharpsooters album if I'm still awake later. On the plus side, the air conditioning is working again, the upright freezer survived, a new refrigerator and microwave have been blessed by the insurance company, there's no damage to the Counterpoint power filters, and I've ordered a couple of 2 outlet Isobar surge protectors for the freezer and new refrigerator.

Guess I'll go back to work next week. Gotta say, it's been some adventure.

8700 miles of it, Lee. Never realized canola fields were as gorgeous as they are in full bloom

Interesting factoid... Canola plants are used as a soil protecting, ground cover in vineyards - - much like Mustard plants.

That is no doubt the same edition but it has my missing insert. Thanks for adding the visual. Did you find out anything about the date it was issued? It appears to be a compilation of a number of different performances and recording sessions but all with the NBC Symphony Orchestra.

Thanks, Tony; there's no date on the discs or cover. Given corporate behavior regarding copyright and such, I'm always surprised when I find albums that don't have dates on them.

I'd venture a guess that in the 50's and earlier, copyright laws and markings were still being dialed in/evolving for vinyl. One would think that RCA - of all companies - would lead in that regard, but it appears not..
