Got the aluminium plate modified to pass the wiring, two small hole saw cuts on the corners a jig saw cut, then a little file and sand paper work.
Lee, thanks for bringing up the issue about the electrolytics and acetone. I now remember you guys talking about that long ago. Think I was researching and hadn't even ordered my first kit. Thanks

So this is "Linda". Linda's original builds seem to out number all other PL builders. Plenty of white haze that would not clean off with 70% and a toothbrush.
I just got a quart of acetone and am going to use Sniffs Concoction with a acid brush, after I pull the transformer. Think I'll take it outside for cleaning.
gotta get a name for mine!!!
we have valerie
we have linda
how bout
BIG BERTHA?

LOL

Now have the B+ (red wire) and B- (black wire) running from the rectifier to the storage cap terminals over the capacitors, instead of under the bus bar PL style. Reason: It just makes sense and keeps them away from all the ground wires that fall off the bus bar.

That's all for today. It can sit on the bench all week until next Monday. Going to see if I can find those part #s for Don's DCP spacers to raise it higher in a 400. May as well get those ordered and installed before I button it up. I know he posted them within the last year. Later y'all.
Oh, and one important thing to think about. I will disconnect those red and black wires from the caps and verify I have B+ and B- properly wired before putting power further into the amp. You can't rush or take anything for granted when building these. These are a lot of fun to build, and a full comprehensive set of Phoenix Contact Connectors make it easy to do upgrades.

A friend of mine and I shared a dorm room in college. He was in the biology program (entomology). Lots of acetone to knock out the bugs. One day he threw acetone into the shared dorm shower, and threw in a match. Impressive!

I hear you Fred. The neighborhood kids and I were shooting off a tennis ball cannon made of heavy black PVC pipe last summer. Ran out of lighter fluid so we switched to acetone. That's why I had none and had to get some more.:D

Well it doesn't take much, mine is a half sheet of plywood supported by a old three drawer dresser and a two drawer filing cabinet. Wood blocks on the filing cabinet level it out.
Once I retire I make a real one. I'm a wood scrounger, where ever I can find it for free. Later, tomorrow's a work day.

there is some beautiful exotic wood here....my favorite is guanacaste....i had a unique opportunity....marias brother is a furniture builder...and the pandemic put him in a pickle...i made a deal with him...he stayed at my home and i paid a salary....we rebuilt every stick of furniture in my home including bathroom and kitchen cabinets...this is my favorite piece....it is a tv lift with a secret!!!
that piece took us 3 weeks...and the whole project was 14 000 and 18 months...what an opportunity....

bought a samsung fridge a while back...thought it was stainless...it was not...a plastic coating that looked amazingly like stainless...after a few years it discolored....so, true to form and my love of wood....we covered it too in guanacaste...turned out nice, me thinks...
Beautiful work and wood. The "secret" is especially nice.
we built several other "secrets" hither and yon....
and thank you for the encouragement....and parts...
this is like torture....most will not show up for at least 2 weeks...maybe close to 3
kinda like holding your breath....
lol
think i am gonna look for another 400...since i have enough parts to populate another....
so i can have what i originally wanted....a stock and wopl 400...
if you have any spare matched 909s....keep me in mind...i dont have a whole matched set as spare...
i do have mine populated with matched sets...as i bought 2...
i am sure that i have the bugs out of the 400c driver board now...
joe said q8 would have definitely put b- on the output...
cross our fingers!!!!

Maverick Deerslayer I believe, I've harvested MANY with that model. Good inexpensive and serviceable piece.
