That's basically what I wanted to do in my 20's! I bought two houses, fixed up and rented one and lived in another. I had one bad renter and everything kinda fell apart. Fix and flip is apparently a better option than hold and rent.

kinda followed in those foot steps also...built a house lived there 2 to 5 years for tax reasons....sold...built bigger, better...then another and another...
my third one was free....and i built two here since.....to bring my house constructions to 5....will probably build one more with my son....the 23 year old that is milking the herd....i started buying calves when they were 3 years from finishing high school....so they could have a business upon graduation....
one of the boys returned to the states to rejoin his mother....he is on his own now...in houston...doing pretty well, i am informed!!!!
proud of both of them....they had a very bad start in life....i built a commercial duplex in 1987 2000 sq feet each....and had my computer business in one side and rented the other...when i got out at the end of 06...rented out my side...helps out a bunch...was a good investment....
today commercial is not the way to go...home financing is getting harder and more complicated, and the rental market favors upscale homes....
just goes to show...

Consider testing the amp without the DCP, it's IC may be blown.

Remove the DCP, refer to the wiring PDF and tape off all wires but the speaker terminal hots and grounds. Then attempt to set bias and measure DC on these these speaker output wires. Just be careful and don't short anything. If within spec, then double check what's B+, B-, ground, etc, and reinstall the DCP and recheck bias and offset.
If, you have a issue with bias or DC with the DCP removed, solve that issue before reinstalling the DCP.

Everything is good on my end. Valerie sounds great. I had a few friends over last Saturday afternoon for a few beers before going to a Kaleo show at the Aragon in Chicago and put her through a high spl demo session for an hour or so. No clipping whatsoever and not much heat coming off of the sinks. They were warm, but far from hot. I was fairly surprised at how relatively cool she was running. I'm certain that my speakers would give out before I run out of headroom on this beast - and it's only the 400!
I just opened up the Rotel RQ-970BX phono pre last night. I received my Mouser shipment and have everything that I need to perform the Andy Grove/HiFi World upgrade on it - except for the precision voltage regulators. Just ordered a 10 pack of those yesterday on eBay. They should be here early next week. I'm still debating whether or not I want to go ahead and replace the power supply caps while I have it open. The unit is 25 years old, so it's probably time for a refresh. We'll see how ambitious I get or if I rush to get it back into service.
It's finally warming up in Chicagoland and is supposed to be in the 80's all of next week. I need to clean up/clean out my garage that has been accumulating 8 months worth of project scraps. When I do that, I'll sort through my collection of PL700's that are sitting on skids and try to select an order for rebuild. I also expect that I'll pick out the worst one or two and throw them up on eBay and see what I can get for them. Need to thin the herd a bit. Nobody needs more than a dozen 700w solid state amps.

i am going over the board comparing to the trace map from the service manual....
i just found a small break in a trace...it was not visible....but showed up with a continuity meter....
wow....i cant believe the little stuff that i have found....i will continue to check every avenue before i power back up....
i retouched every solder joint on the board....and am checking continuity on all....

I have repaired multiple amplifiers (not PL) with cracked traces like that. Very tough to track down with the odd readings and voltages.

really....i cant believe....i use 4x glasses to look at the board with a frog hunting headlight....
i still could not see it...it only showed up checking continuity between the solder points....it was 1/2 inch from one solder point....
i found another, but i guess the factory had found it first...has a small strand of wire soldered in....
i may have found a third...
i cant believe this is normal.....i thought one you soldered something it was done....
i know nasa has problems with tin whiskers growing in space over time...but, i did not know solder could disappear....
hmmmm....
you have a nice rack....

PL did not use very high quality bare boards. You are finding that out

i imagine i will learn a lot more before this is over....
i can see the difference between the pioneer boards and the pl boards....however the pioneer is 78....and my pl is 74....
did the newer boards get better???
cheaper is not always better....
