Nando: I received the tape today; thank you very much!

I was looking for a sealed one, to add to my collection, but this open one might actually get used for it's intended purpose... I've never even held an MA-R, MA-XG or SA-XG before, so in a way, this allows me to do that. And I can see if I can wring out any sonic improvement over the lowly MA. Some will be had, since this is a double-coated tape. Not sure the shell will make an appreciable difference in the Tascam over a standard TDK shell.

But, I am still on the hunt for the MA-X, MA-XG and SA-XG (sealed) for my collection. The exterior wrappers are more colorful and interesting than the tapes themselves. And I just want to display them sealed.

Currently they reside in an old TDK denim case, but I may upgrade to a shadowbox to show them off once my 1986 "Master Collection" is complete.

(Stage 2 is to get an SA90 from each year of production, also sealed...)

A clear conscience is actually a bad memory.
If i was to buy one more cassette for my collection it would be the SA-XG, i never even knew they existed until a year or so ago.....

I have a NOS box of TDK MA-XG, i will check to see if they are sealed, If so i will get in touch, but i have a feeling that someone has opened all of them to check for white powder.... ( I had four boxes with a Nak 681zx i purchased years ago, and still own.... ).... and the other tapes had been opened but not used..... )

I think the SA-XG would be the best possible sound from a TDK cassette. That's assuming the fancy shell does anything to help the sound. SA-X is a really great tape!

If you do have the MA-XG sealed, check the back to see that it is from NY. I think in Europe you would have the European version (unless that score came from the USA). I am seeking the USA versions of the 1986 offerings (in 90 minute length) specifically for my little master set.

But thank you very much for checking!

I also need a MA-X sealed. I thought I had one but I don't.

Hi Jim: Sorry - I had missed your post and I'm glad you received the tape without much delay. You won't have to feel guilty about recording on it, as it is unsealed, but never recorded on. I hope that Tony is able to help you in getting a sealed MA-XG and SA-XG added to your collection. I've got to look in case I have a TDK MA-X squirreled away. If I don't, I may ask another member to see if he has one, as he's, also, a big collector of TDK cassettes.

Today, I received your parcel of tapes. It was gracious of you to have added an additional TDK SM-10 Professional to the lot. Thanks very much!

You are quite welcome!

Give the SM a listen on side one. That is the test tape I made for the D5. Made on the Tascam, from CD source. A GOOD CD from 1987; not a mid-90’s study in compression…

I need to figure out what to record on this tape!

OK I have checked my remaining box of MA-XG tapes and they are indeed from Europe ( Not really surprised there, as they came from here! ) ...... I will also check for MA-X, i do have some sealed ones, i think that they may be the C-110 length?? I will check, oh and see if they are European as well!

I really appreciate that, thank you!

I have not been able to move on the others because back to school expenses have been beyond expectations…

But, please have a look and if they are US versions I am interested!

Hi Jim: I did listen to the recording done on the TDK SM10 Professional, you gifted me. Nice recording of Robbie Robertson's "Somewhere Down The Crazy River." Goes to show you how important a good mastering can translate to a stellar copy from CD to tape.

The Fuji GT-II cassettes were their top model of Type II cassettes available in the 1982-1984 line-up. I, already, unsealed one for a test recording in the upcoming week.

Car Driving Tunes

The cassette shell is very dense. The tape has weight to it and a nice feel. I have been a big fan of Fuji tapes. I have been putting together some car audio components for my 1976 Buick Regal Sport Coupe. I'm going to record 60 minutes of good driving tunes.

Thanks, Lee. I bought the Rockford Fosgate amp and preamp to replace the system I once had in my 1972 Buick Gran Sport. The Concord HPL-506 AM/FM/cassette deck is a recent purchase from the same seller. A rare deck to have and one of the best of that era of car stereo components.
