I have a Dual 500 that I am planning on upgrading. This will take some time as I have alot going on in my life (retired... LOL!). I will need to purchase alot of material for the rebuild. Really thinking about redesigning the backplane (via a schematic and one of those doit yourself circuit board online sites), it is an atrocious hodgepodge of point to point.
Anyway Glen, I am being told you are the Garu of 500s. If you have any pointers, that sure would be appreciated. I need to check one of the boards I built for my 700 Series II and 400 Series II to see if it is what is mentioned above (I have not upgraded these amps yet).
BTW, I also have a Carver C500 and want to go thru and upgrade, clean up it's wiring as well.

I looked at my Dual 500 today and I know this would be a great task to make a PCB back plane. Still debating on that. I see ferret beads, I believe this is to suppress parasitic oscillations and no wonder with how this amp (along with the rest of Phase Linear amps) is wired. No disrespect, I love PL, I have had them since 1978. They know what they are doing, just I think they could have done a better job wiring these amps.
If I did a PCB back plane, I would definitely do a double sided clad board. I believe this would eliminate the need for the ferrite beads.
Again, all this is preliminary and it is almost daunting to me. So I may not go that route. Just looking into preliminary and what I want to do.
Also, I will separate the inputs / power from the rest of the wiring as I do not believe in grouping these things together (power etc.)
