what are you listening to?

Looks great, Gary. I hope there are a few tapes in the bunch you hadn't heard before.

According with Wikipedia was titled Top Priority because Chrysalis promised RG to make it their top priority for marketing. Killer blues guitar rock, turn it up!

Hehe, just scored a nice copy 45rpm of Yoko Ono's 'Walking on Thin Ice~ for John', lovely message on the back about her thoughts between her and John.

below is what a fan wrote on amazon's review site...

I became a Yoko fan in my early teens in the late 1970s. In 1981 when "Walking on Thin Ice" came out on 45, I bought it and I thought it was brilliant. I still do. You would think more John Lennon fans would have wanted to hear the record that he and Yoko were working on the night he was killed, but no, "Walking on Thin Ice" was never listened to or appreciated like it should have been. This was the era of the early New Order, Depeche Mode, OMD, and Pet Shop Boys records. You would think "Walking on Thin Ice" would have fit right in. Was it not marketed properly? Maybe. But I remember calling a radio station to request it in the 1980s, during the naivete of my high school years, and being told "This radio station plays no Yoko Ono whatsoever." Now "Walking on Thin Ice" has been remixed and reissued, bright shiny and new, for the millennial dance floor. All the remixes bring creative inspiration to the song while remaining true to Yoko Ono's classic release. It's as haunting and enchanting as ever. And am I the only person in the world who's ever counted how many times Yoko sings "Ice!" on the original 45? "Ice! Ice! Ice! Ice!" 128 times. That's the date John Lennon died, 12-8 of 1980.

Wasn't just showing them, I've been listening to them. I knew of the band way back when but never heard anything by them. Kind of surprises me because the music was right up my alley in 1970. I thought it was just another group with a goofy name like others of that era. Some tunes kinda sound like ZZ Top meets Deep Purple.

Did some reading and the drummer, Carl Palmer went to play with those guys Emerson and Lake.

I'm taking the liberty of dubbing the 8 tracks onto a reel. Don't know when I'd have 3 Atomic Rooster albums in front of me again if ever.

Record away, Gary. I'm glad you are enjoying them. I will look for the other 8-tracks I have.

a classic that I can remember buying new in 1973. I can enjoy a few passages now but unfortunately 43+ years of repeated listening = over-exposure. My college-age son enjoys the music and it has been fun comparing notes on the record with him.

Hey bud, I bought the 1st pressing of MFSL DSOTM in '79?? Has SR and a squigle underneath in the dead wax, still has the $17.00 price tag on the outer thick sleeve, I wonder how yours sounds compared to mine?

When I bought my Thorens in '79 the local salon said "son, you need some serious recordings for that rig". I was just about tapped out as a young high school student but...found the funds for the MFSL Floyd, Supertramp ~ Crime of the Century, Beatles ~ Abbey Road and Steve Miller ~ Fly Like an Eagle all at $17.00 each! They still give me the shivers :toothy5:

I think I have only one of their LPs, but I really didn't know anything about the band. Thanks for doing a bit of research, because I'm a big fan of ELP. Long ago I wasn't, but my listening preference has changed.
