Have you had much experience with the Technic's ?
Seen many of them when I was in the service.
Used to refer to them as the 'Close and Play" tables .
I have a SL-Q5 here that works great. I had a cheesy JVC before that, but the Technics does great for me. Grado Black T4P cartridge installed.

I spoke for that arm over a year and a half ago....had a PL-L1000 on the hook but that didn't pan out. Don't know what Ed had going on, maybe it's a surprise. I know he had a table or two extra there....

Ed probably just forgot you had spoke for it Lee. He talks about so much cool stuff its hard to keep up with him.
Its always enjoyable. Ed also has one of the overhang gauges for the PL Lt.
Just a wild thought......wonder if it could be duplicated on one of those 3D printers? There kind of hard to find.
Ed had 3 arms left when I put dibs on that one....

If you get your hands on one either take good measurements or send it my way and we could duplicate it or get very close. If you have a detailed drawing of one that would work too.

The adjustment for linears is zero overhang:

Use any protractor (Stevenson, Baerwald, etc.) that has a straight line coming from the spindle post center.
Chock the platter so that it doesn't turn easily, drop the stylus on the protractor.
Rotate the platter (or protractor) until the line corresponds to the stylus position.
Slide the tonearm either fully right or left (depending on where you started) and see if the stylus point is still on the line.
When you've fiddled enough with it that the point rests on the line regardless of arm position, you've accurately reached zero overhang.

Note: basically you're ignoring the grids of the node points on the protractor, but the grid is still useful to find 90° tangent between groove and cantilever.

My first was the Marantz SLT-12 back in 1969.
Now that was a complicated beast- not surprised that it didn't work well.

Revox also made an LTTT where the "tonearm" was a carriage above the platter that swung out of the way to replace the record. Another complicated machine.

Mark, you've shared some good information with us. I'm glad I bumped this thread. I would love to have a Pioneer PL-L1000 down the road. They just don't pop up that often in my part of town, but eventually one will.

You're like a walkin history book on TT's....uber cool...
(If you were referring to me, not really. The phonograph bug bit me before kindergarten, it's been a lifelong hobby and passion.)

Photos collected from the web:
Marantz SLT-12u:

The Marantz underbelly:

Studer/Revox B790:

The thing I wonder most about these two that really don't have a "tonearm" is how much variance there is in the VTA since there's such a short vertical pivot to the "arm"

Hmmm... Photo tags don't seem to be working today... Does anyone see any photos?

Earlier they weren't there, but now all of them appear.

My brain is like those games where you have to get a little ball into a hole... my brain just fell out of the hole momentarily.

I was using html tags instead of IMG tags

Look for a PL-L800- it's not that far different from the 1000. There's also the PL-L1000A with a different arm travel control.

I had an Eminent Technology air bearing linear tracking arm on a VPI HW-19 for many years and it was great as far as vinyl went. I sold it about 15 years ago then scrapped all my LP's except my Direct to Discs which remain packed away. I went to CD and SACD exclusively. Today I run a DAC that has no analog output stage, there are only a pair of Lundahl line transfomers between the output of the DAC chip and the line stage. Even the best quality vinyl playback I've heard doesn't come close to what this DAC can do.
