Derek92994's 700 Ser II White Oak conversion

Scott has a 700. The original 700. The output hole pattern is different than the B's.

Interesting. So you would have an original 700 faceplate and transformer installed into a 700B chassis with White Oak guts?

would the Series II faceplate and such bolt in too? yeah I'm the oddball Cylon-lover in the crowd. I like my Pro, but the faceplate is kind of beat on it.

Yep, to convert the new chassis to a Ser II faceplate doesn't work. I test fit Przem's to the new chassis and the new chassis is too wide for the rack bolts on the Ser II. If the holes in the Ser II faceplate were slotted, it would fit. They can be slotted and still have the beauty ring cover the slot. OR, it looked like to me the new chassis could have the side panels bent inward slightly to line up the flange to make the Ser II faceplate work also. So a couple of options there...

just curious. Mine isn't trashed to the point of needing to replace the chassis. I wouldn't mind having the faceplate redone with the proper original markings and such but that would probably be as far as I go with it. Only reason I'd want the original markings is because its a less common variant of the family.

The black pro 700's aren't that many, that's for sure...

Boards in.....and as a proof on the chassis all TO-3 mounting screws were run in to check hole alignment with the backplane boards....they were as perfect as the rest...

As in the pics, if you'll remember there was no clearance between the backplanes and the chassis on Przem's, on this there is an abundance of room....

This build is looking sweet Lee. What version of backplane boards are you using?

For the production chassis is Joe considering a coating of some sort? Personally I like the Electroless nickel plating myself but this presents the appearance of chrome plating. The black chassis is cool too and better represents the original chassis design. I'm not surprised that the chassis is spot on - great job Joe.

Black anodized Dennis. And thank you.....yep the fit is perfect...the 700's only have one version Navo..

Actually 2 of the 700's and a 400.

On the new chassis, would there be any mods needed for tranny and PS caps? Seems to me there is some design difference between Series 1 and II at that end of the amp.

Navo...did you see post 202??

I remember you building that bad ass power supply but had forgotten about it. This will be fun to watch. I bet there is very little sag with this. It's just as we like them - a hint of sag but not too much.

Will this version be capable of incorporating the output driver sockets or has that modification been implemented on the Rev B 400 backplane board only? The redesign that Joe did could sure help in making any pre-driver / driver replacements and if the final stage is dicked up the socketed output drivers could be easily removed for troubleshooting purposes. I was glad to see Joe incorporate this mod with the Rev B 400 back plane boards.

No version of that in the 700 boards yet Dennis. Haven't talked to Joe about that possibility yet either. I really don't mind soldering the outputs in. Very little need anymore to change out a TO-3...

#14 to the B+,B- fuses from the caps, and #12 from the BR to the caps...
