Not knowing your budget, or whether you'd prefer a stereo unit or monoblocks, a receiver or pure amps, or even an integrated versus a pure amplifier, I looked on eBay for some stuff that looked interesting and not totally off the charts in terms of money....and I found these. At least it's a place to start..Feel free to ask more questions, and I know the gang here only wants to help...and if something needs fixin...there are plenty of experts here.. GOOD LUCK..I think tubes are way fun, but can get very expensive, and in the end you may love them, or you may go back to solid state, or you may like both...

larry tell me more... what can your amp do?
specifications and the such?
i did find a sansui 1000a (think it needs rotor-rooter to come in then start over)
that is/was first look to the untrained eye, one cap leaking.
a couple of tubes evicted(or runaways)
and also a little pilot ?-230-? think

starting with a working piece sorta seems nice, then i want a new corvette too :-(
if someone will keep gas in it and pay for the tires

Been sitting here thinking. What power tubes do you want to run. EL-34, KT-88s, or 300Bs? Do you want an Int.or a pure amp? John bought his Chinese from Canada. US made you are going to pay some bucks. He bought 2 from me.One was messed up and I didn't know it. So he got my other one. I just sold one I had swapped all the tubes out and it sounded great.

sorry read it wrong, looking too hard for christmas morning happy
wanted real bad to think it was an offer

300Bs. People love for the sound. I have had all 3 that I mentioned. The last to leave was EL-34s.I was pushing 65 WPC.The 300B amp I sold was pushing big 13 wpc. It played my Epos which aren't very efficient. One other thought. With everything going on with the PLs here. You may consider going that route.

Lee did mine and now well some day it will be going back to Lee to be modded some more. I went with Black Gate caps. This time it will be all silver hook-up wire. The BGs and and non-inductive resistors. Was reading about Shotsky Diodes. Will see.It was pushing 525 wpc.

Bill, for decent power output and a creamy sound you can't beat EL34's, 300B's tend to be pricey and have a very low output, the design is from the 1930s. But man, they sound great!!

There is nothing cheap about rolling tubes.I held off a few years till I heard the difference. I got lucky and didn't have to spend a bunch of money. Just a little bit. With the tubes you can roll till you find the sound you really like and then leave them alone for a few years.

EL34's are nice, but really don't do bass very well. I really like the new KT-120's. I also like the 7868 and the 7591 tubes. I think an older amp which uses the 7686 or the 7591 would be the way to go...or something which uses the KT-88 (6550) would be excellent. Is this topic still being discussed?

That is the reason to roll tubes. Each maker of tubes sounds different. It isn't only the power tubes that define the sound. The others contribute a great deal.It is just like anything. Everything in line to the speaker can take away or add to the sound. It is like a jigsaw puzzle. If you are happy with it the way you get it then your a lucky man. Don't start rolling tubes. It can get expensive.I was happy for about 4 years and I started reading and rolling. I kept my Mullards though.
