what are you listening to?

Tony: I await your verdict on the Van Halen box set. If I had VH on right now, I wouldn't be having just a coffee in hand. If I recollect correctly, I would have been having some Carling O-Keefe Extra Old Stock gripped in my right paw, while listening to some "Fair Warning." I agree, Ben, that's one of the better albums. I, only, had it on pre-recorded cassette back then, but it sure got a lot of play in my Pioneer cassette deck during the summer.

Nando, I just completed listening to all 6 discs; they are all well level-matched and sound pretty crisp. I want to listen more carefully to each disc now with cans but it's fair to say they all sound pretty damn good.
I have a Rotel CD unit that is HDCD capable so I'm curious how that funcitonality enhances (or not) the presentation. I noticed that when I popped '1984' into my work computer that the HDCD icon came up, which
leads me to believe that these discs were sourced from the ~2000 remasters. But my recollection of those weren't favorable back in the day and I don't recall them being level matched across the span. I plan on doing
some comparisons between a couple of discs I have access to; '1984' from WAY WAY back and a definite 2000 release of the first album.

On the ES stack they sound pretty amazing...but I need to do a bit more careful listening.
The first album sounds so much better to me then I ever remember; 'Fair Warning' and 'Women and Children First' have a lot more punch too!
I will say this though, if you don't have the catalog, this is a really inexpensive way to acquire them all in one fell swoop.

Oddly enough...

In The Air Tonight just came on the radio.

Thanks for your feedback, Tony. I don't customarily buy box sets, but I will if the box set is comprised of bands I don't have most of their albums, already. It feels like a Van Halen evening!

Right now, I am listening to Chris' mix tape. This one is full of energy - blues/rock - and nicely recorded.

Beautiful EQ still Nando. Any performance issues??
Lee: The Pioneer SG-9500 is still as good as the day you sent it, cosmetically and performance-wise. And I do make regular use of it. I've learned it is sometimes worse to let equipment sit idle for long periods of time than it is to have it in operation.

Rumours ~ Fleetwood Mac on the Xonar

Listening again to this album, via a 96K/24 bit SACD rip of the original tracks, but remastered and in 5.1 stereo. Downmixed back to stereo via Foobar's plugin.

Has to be one, if not, the best sounding set of FLAC's I have. I'm hearing a seriously accurate soundstage, and Stevie's vocals are just.. wow.. right "there". The start of "Oh Daddy" is just, chilling! Cymbal taps leave me looking for the drum kit behind the speakers...

Impressive sound, to say the least. :thumbright:

Unaware Fagen had a recent, new one! Awesome.
Huge 'Dan fan ova here.......
His first two solo efforts get plenty of air time in my world!

More "good food" for the Xonar...

All of Donald Fagen's tracks including the new album put out this year. Superb mastering and sound..

Plus a few extras... like "True Companion" (anyone remember the classic "Heavy Metal"? I believe this was the track after "Snooow Tiiiiiime!!!" lol, snort... )

Nick: The Iron Maiden "Killers" LP was one my son brought over last week to play on my system. His copy is a new re-release. To me, a few re-releases I have heard, aren't up to the same quality standard as the original.

Nando,
I will have to double- check but I think it may is the Harvest pressing, it sound ridiculously good on my modest system! I have the picture disc reissue also, but for the art. Sounds like a picture disc which is to say not so hot.
