you are right....but i really do....i have a small stack of lps with no reliable source for more...thats why im not gonna sink a ton into this!!!
 
Gene, I am running an old Pioneer PL-514 right now in my office with a Grado cart on it and believe me it sounds great. You really don't have to sink a whole ton into one to have a nice decent sound. I have nicer TT but I have not even bothered because I just do not play LP's that much. BUT, and in the same breath I am just now getting off the net looking at Thorens tables again... lol.

The 165 is a beautiful table, it may not have the motor clutch for spin up, and the sub platter/bearing may not be as heavy duty, none the less it is a fine sounding turntable.
