Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers
(1969, RCA) French pressing

instead of an insert used in the US record (iirc, too lazy to check), it's the inner gatefold for this release. w/ Jerry Garcia, Stephen Stills, David Crosby.

Chancellor is back, and looks like everyone is healthy for the first time since the NFC game last season. Should be interesting to see if they can dig their way out of the 0-2 start. Kam highlights:

Very nice photo montage Mark, well done...
That's a cool collage, Mark. Nice to see your Dual getting good use playing many rock classics.

Nando.
Thanks, I like playing with Photoshop from time to time...

As expected, the AT is a bit crisp and "bitey", it's sure to tame down with time. One thing I do notice is that it's not as offensively harsh as it was on the Harman/Kardon ST-7.

As for what everyone said about trackability, yes- it's great! I found a fairly nice microscope on fleabay for $60 and had a look at the point- and understand why the tracking is so good. It's really close to the Shibata point used in CD-4 of long ago.

Really love the 1229Q, too, and just for curiosity's sake I put on a troublesome warped LP- and the arm tracked it quite well. Before, I had to use the Shure with the stablizer brush and put up with the mushy sound. I've used the Ortofon OM on it as well, this thing is great. This also shows how shitty that Rek-O-Kut is!

Mark: Is there a preferred vintage Dual turntable/changer that is most sought after by Dual enthusiasts?

Always learning!
Was watching the replay of the golf tournament, the girls are a nice relaxing play while watching. Not much music match with golf. Tried playing with earphones a couple times and found it distracting, don't need to get pumped for golf, better to be relaxed with a smooth stroke....same as sex!!

You can tame the AT440MLa down the track using resistors if it annoys you, I started with 24k loading but have gone back to 32k as it still allows the cartridge's sound signature to come through. I made a thread called "Parallel Resistive Loading" in the phono section with a link to the info site. Tracking of that cartridge is second to none.

Yes- I read that, went to RadioShack for the bits&pieces and tried it myself. I didn't like it- took too much out no matter what values I used, I actually preferred the "bite" to the sound I got from the parallel load.

I had to tame mine down as my pre-amp is bright as well. The brightness was really excessive requiring extreme treble reduction on the pre.

About 2 years ago, I corresponded at length with the service manager of Noresco which was the Canadian Dual distributor. He said he liked the 1019 and 1219 changers the best. We never discussed single plays.

Good pick, got me a good selection of Lou....couple more I could add, to boot. New York, and Berlin are a couple I'd like to acquire.
