what are you listening to?

Listening to the new Shabazz Palaces, Lese Majesty. Great album if you're at all inclined to the more adventurous and spacey, electronic side of hip hop.

Sounds interesting. I'll have to check that out sometime.

Thanks.

And now, moving on to Miles's Tangerine Dream mix.

An interesting and fun mix. When I think Tangerine Dream I think of albums like Phaedra or Rubycon, maybe Stratosfear. Mostly though I think of floating hazy synths and that's certainly an element throughout this mix, this has has a lot more breadth and includes a ton of rhythmic stuff and what I'm guessing are additional beats layered in for some places as some of it has a more modern trance feel to it. But the whole mix ebbs and flows nicely and makes for a fun listen. I think this is going to be excellent driving music. Next longer trip I take this is going to get brought along. Should also be good for late night.

Advantage...

Dave,

Good to read you're enjoying it!

This mix was an advantage to me, in sense of doing new things with some of the TD classics you've mentioned.
Nevertheless... This mix is from 2008 and made for broadcast purposes, but my way of mixing has developed since then.
I'm still working on my contribution of "The Synths Only Challenge", and hopefully it will be as enjoyable as the Fat Weasel one.

I'm sure it will not be a problem by putting you on the list for a copy of my part of this challenge....

You're welcome!

Miles.

Loudness War...

First listen on a WAV 16-41000 file (on the PCM-M10):

First impression:

Songs aren't bad, but the overall mastering of this album sounds over! compressed...

Typical example of the loudness war.

Have a close look on track one of this album:

Dynamics? Eh..... :sleepy5:

A list I am happy to be on. Thanks.

Porcupine Tree....

Is that the analog graph Miles??

Not exactly Lee, I loaded the track into Soundforge Pro to see how it appears.

Another example suffering with the same problem:

Just loaded one of the tracks directly from the original CD and it looks like this:

Good gravy! Stretch the timeframe by about 10x and see if it's really a job for Liquid Plumr...or Metl Rooter...

No need for stretching it... The Complete song is hard limited to 0dB exactly....

No dynamics at all....
