Green label, Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice!

What an overlooked and under-rated album.
The dynamic range, channel sep and over all engineering on that album is pretty remarkable considering the year of its release.
Yep x100. The sound quality on this LP is astounding, especially the way they mic'd the guitars. shimmering, room filling with great separation and placement for the bass and percussion. Three Roses and Here especially. This is one of those records for me that I see often enough but always trashed or noisy even if the LP looks VG+ or better, so it's nice to have this one in NM- shape.

Good engineering has been around forever, just not always used..
Yep, I get floored by the sound quality of some very old 50's jazz records ...on good labels like Riverside.

Steve Vai's Flexable got through mailorder when I joined the Steve Vai fan club many years ago when it came into being. This is the original cover version and pressed on Steve's own label

Cool copy of Flexable Ron. I have the red cover version. Never seen that one before.

Beautiful tt, Dave. Makes me want to build/ buy a wooden plinth for my own table.
Thanks. When I got the base it was in pretty ratty shape, but some sanding and a new finish, along with sound deadening stuff inside and some spikes on the bottom got it looking good pretty quickly. Personally, I think the table sounds really good but as much as anything I just like the look of the vintage tables. I'm also a sucker for automation; my other table is a Technics SL-1600, so whichever one I'm using is auto everything.

Dave: Nice job on the restoration on your Dual turntable. Like you, the manual tts aren't my first choice. The more automation the better. I do have just one manual turntable and it doen't get much use.

Yeah, I feel like if I was someone who only listened carefully to vinyl as a special thing, I'd probably be OK with manual tables. But I listen to vinyl all the time, when cleaning the house, when lying down for a nap, when drinking with friends, when cooking dinner, just whenever. So, I'm not always ready to pay close attention and leap up to shut the thing off at the end of a side and I don't like the idea of letting the table play the run out groove endlessly. I did pick up a manual table (A ProJect RPM-4) a year or two back but I never thought it sounded better than the tables I have and it lacked the convenience features so I basically put in in the basement after a couple months of occasionally using it and just keep waiting until I have a chance to sell it or trade it in for something sometime. To me there was no point in something with no better sound that was more difficult to use. I'm sure there are higher end tables that sound better than what I have, but I'm not shopping at that price point anytime soon and I'm quite happy with the sound I get with the old automatics.

Common sense is so not-common nowadays, thanks for injecting some..

I am a longtime fan of manual TTs, less things to go wrong with them but I tend to keep an eye on records I am playing and am there to lift the stylus at the end of the lp. I do have a few automatics but they just sit in the garage collecting dust
