Pics are your friend Larry!! Looks like fun! There were two things my Gramps wanted to do with me before he died, teach me how to read a schematic and build a Heathkit receiver, and go fishin' up in Alaska.....we never got to do either

Go ahead and laugh nozzle, it wasn't funny at the time, do you remember how bad it was there in the late 70's?? I could have been stabbed to death :cyclops:

Nope as I lived in Alaska in the late 70's but trust me it did not improve any. Part of the reason we moved. No way I want my kid growing up there.
I went back to the old hood in the mid 90's for a funeral, and I was shocked  at how much worse it was! Paddock Forrest where we lived was a really nice subdivision, well built brick homes. I got bussed over to Central so they could have some upper middle class white meat for the government funding. That's when Dad said, we're moving outta here. Sad how bad it got, like a little Detriot up there now.

I think I can get this back on track. I ordered the light magnifier so I can see to solder. It will be here next week. This getting old isn't fun. I still have the TT pin under the helping hands. One of these days I'm going to have a nice little shop here. One of these days I may get everything fixed. LOL

Well I think getting this kit will get me back on the road of knowing how to trouble shoot again. I use to be good; but more than 20 years has went by. I have forgotten so much. My table is getting cleaner. So I will be able to work on stuff. Not on the floor of the sound room; but in the garage. I even have more tools than I did as a mech. I have 3 meters. I need a power supply. I should have never sold that on to Lee. LOL

I know, the power supply has been invaluable. A regulated DC power su[pply is absolutely necessary for some things.

I have been using one of those for the last couple of years, they really do help. A pair of magnifing glasses from Wally World help too, you can get 3 pairs for around $8.

I wear the magnifiers on the end of my nose like the old folds do, that way I can look over them to see things accross the room, they suck but at least I can see.

They tried putting one contact for close and one contact for distance, that is an expirience.

As soon as I get this tone arm done. I'm going to populate the pre PCB. Stuwee you never did answer about the soldering. I threaded 6 inches of cable into the arm so far. I have about another 3 inches to go. Then I'll hook them together and pull the other one back through. I have a Carbon Fiber arm. I'm trying to remember if it would conduct electricity. They reason is because it has its own ground wire. Which I have to fish through also. Some dumb jerk cut the connector off and it pulled through. These wires are so small I didn't see it when I went to cut another wire.

About your kind offer? I have an iron, solder and flux, all that stuff, Dale took the SME arm wire to work to do it right. He'll bring me some boards or I'll take one out of these old towers in here and practice. Or did you mean have I started yet?
