That would have been the Ford Thunderbolt. Although I appreciate all muscle cars, I do pin my heart on Buick first and other GM marques second. I didn't know about Beswick playing both fields.

Actually Nando it was a 427 powered Comet,,not a lot were built and they had the potential to be a little quicker as the had more overhang behind the rear wheels I think they were named AFX
 
Nostalgia Drag racing is a ton of fun. It brought out a bunch of old guys and old cars out of the barns and garages back on the track.
Here is a couple of my old cars.

The old '40 Ford wasn't that fast. mid 13's but is hand full. The old drum brakes makes it a hand full to make the first return road after the traps.:happy2:

My old '55 Nomad gasser turned consistent 12 sec runs. I broke into the high 11's and the boys said no more until you cage it.
So I ended up selling it back in 2005.
Love those WSW slicks. Running hi 12vs lo13s was plenty quick and like you say them Drummys would fade out pretty quick and downshifting at a 100mph plus could cost you a motor or at least a few valves

Robert. Was it a Cammer? I now Don Nicholson ran a 427 SOHC in the Comet.

Nope not a Cammer just your run of the Mill 427 Hiriser, go to google you can pull up a pic,,The only one I ever saw was the one that Beswick had, I hate to think of what Arnie could have done with that thing if the Factory didn't pull it, I worked for a Ford dealership and actually saw a SOHC come into the parts dept

Mike: Love the looks of the Nomad. I guess you'll be hanging onto your '40 Ford for awhile longer, as you're still active in taking it out to shows.

Robert: A Comet. That would make sense with the rear overhang as compared to the Ford Fairlane or Galaxie body style.

I had the chance to own either the full bodied Galaxie or the T-Bolt,, the dealership I went to work for was the same dealership I'd run against at Greatlakes Dragway
 
Agreed Lee, this is an interesting thread. For one thing, I hadn't realized how involved FF was with competitive drag racing back in the day. It's also nice to hear of the stories of other members' rides. I would love to become more involved with drag racing when I retire from work.

I never miss an NHRA event on the tube. Plan on going to the Mile Hi Nationals next year. I too, have been surprised about Robert's history..

You are correct, I had to look for images because I remember it was the goddamn UGLIEST car in the world. Mine was black and was a hardtop w/ the 383. I guess it was a 1962. I paid $200 for it and had it maybe 3 weeks tops before I traded it for a LTD. I did not even register it, just drove it with the license plates that were on it LMAO!!! It would do a seriously smokey one wheel peel

Not mine but imagine it black with no chrome engine

Your old Fury might have been ugly to you, but the heart of the car - namely the 383 - was the real beauty.
