The Sanyo Plus Series 200, jbeckva and I love the Plus Series, just Love this very rare bird! The amp separates from the pre/tuner section. It has front panel adjustable phono cartridge loading, I think it's the only big receiver to have that.

You mean they had a receiver too??? Wow! and at that kind of output class too??

Dang... do you even know anyone that has one (and their address?? :rr: )

I've got the V7's mild-mannered cousin STR-5800SD sitting in here...ALAS NOT MINE (STILL). The guy wants me to check it out for him (this time for his sister) and I would've bought the darn thing from him a year ago or the first time myself if I hadn't wanted other items at the auction.

The good old, still broken (volume/balance control) Pioneer SX-D7000 at 120 wpc.

HEY! I WANT IT BACK!!!!!!!

Photobucket account or Flicker, grabs pics from your computer, then you copy the http: # and paste it in the thread, works a treat.

They had a couple Plus Series receivers, that one was the TOTL, I saw and touched one in a store once, very nice!

Here's my favourite of the 80's amplifiers; a Pioneer Elite M-90. It's part of six Elite components I collected and presently use.

Courtesy of Pioneer:

"The M-90 is a superb high-power stereo amplifier, utilizing dual-mono construction. It is conservatively rated at 200 W/CH into 8 ohms and delivers 800 W/CH of dynamic power at 2 ohms. The wide dynamic range of the digital sources can now be reproduced effortlessly, with any loudspeakers. The M-90's high current capacity of 47 amps can handle the challenge of the most complex speaker loads. To further enhance S/N ratio and channel separation, relay-operated electronic switches and a long shaft volume control keep the length of signal paths down to a minimum. Why include a high quality volume control on a power amp? To pursue the straight wire-with-gain philosophy when using a CD player connected directly. Pure sound, redefined."

The M-90 was virtually distortion-free, having only 0.003% THD from 20-20K Hz @ 8 ohms, and had a S/N ratio of 125 dB! (See the complete specifications at bottom of page.) The M.S.R.P. for the M-90 was $950.00. It was superseded by the M-91 in 1989.

Nando, that M-90 might stand up to the Spec 2 for awhile anyway. I'd love to put that on the scope and load it up.

It has been on the scope, but Gordon from Innovative Audio knows the numbers. I, only, recall him saying 80 Volts at a very low distortion figure, but I don't remember that figure.

I don't have an ultra high powered receiver, but I do have both Pioneer 120 watt plus receivers that have served me well. The M-90 was the closest to any of the offerings stuwee has posted so far. It's not a receiver, however.

That Sony is in great shape and its been gone over, I think you have to be a big vintage Sony fan to puck down $500 and change for a receiver. Tho it's got the same amp section Broonsbane had for sale, and he was asking $350 for his. The older Sonys are sleepers in the market.

Nando, a couple years ago when I was lookin' at the big amps, I had my eye on a couple M-90s, they went over $500 each, too rich for me. The big VU meter Sony, Onkyo and Denon power amps (they all look very similair, any else notice that too?) were selling for around $500 too. I scored the Yammie for around $350 a snip.

80 volts at what ohms load?

Power= volts squared/ohms

I would assume 8 ohms but that's an awful big number after plugging in the #s.

Nando.

I have owned a few of the top monster receivers in the past, but with no Laatsch around to work on them I sold em all. I had the top Pioneer Dog, the second in the Sansui Lineage and the top Fisher and Hitachi and Toshiba receivers, not all at the same time though.

Nowadays I just stick to my power amps from Pioneer, Carver, Onkyo, Sony, Denon, Nikko, DBX and Harman Kardon.

Uh, yeah.................

Gordon could have been reading peak-to-peak off the scope which would have been 56 volts RMS=392watts

Stuwee: Your Yamaha was a good deal. I think paying half of the original retail price is not expensive for the right component in good to excellent working and cosmetic condition. I've used that as my maximum limit for purchasing used vintage stereo equipment.

Yep, I thought so too, it had barely been used, it was box fresh inside (do a search at TH, MacGyver posted the nudies for me) it still had the plastic protector sheet between the back of the amp and the binding posts, not a mark on it, that sold me! I only had $350 to play with and I was sweating with my snipe at $370. Hehe, was a luck 0 the Irish score on St. Paddy's day IIRC.
