First, the story on how I got to audition this beautiful piece of equipment.. Flash back to 1987 when I was a senior in high school. We lived up in them thar hills in Sugar Grove, WV (yep, the Navy is actually up there). Not much to do, day to day. But I used to rotate with a few other guys as the DJ up at the "Mountaineer Club" (the base "watering hole").
When it was my turn, I'd haul up my tape deck, turntable, a lil BPC (but it was pretty powerful) Sansui A-1200 integrated, a rat shack mixer, and two big ole Technics SB-L95 15" speakers.
But then ... that "fateful day" arrived, when I had the real bright idea to reflow the solder joins on the output trannies of the Sansui. I wanted to keep listening to music while I worked, so... ZAP.. POW... (oops - hey... teenagers sometimes have virtual lobotomies now and then! )
That was when a friend I knew offered to lend me his POA-1500 and PRA-1000. The basketball tournament was in-town so us DJ's kept pretty busy for a few days in March.
I think too at the time, I actually had two pairs of big ole 15" Technics.. so both pairs were hauled up to the club and the party began.
Man, the Denon could really really put out some power. All four speakers going at deafening levels - but it was so clean!
Who else has experience with this puppy? What is your impression?
ps.. got one to sell?? LOL...
