The Pioneer SX-1980 has the reserve power the Technics SA-1000 doesn't offer. Gordon proved that when he had mine on the bench. A thoroughly reconditioned Pioneer SX-1980 is already at three times of original retail price.

If you are a connoisseur and it is a must have then it is probably not too bad. SX-1980 are a dime a dozen compared to these, but of course SX-1980's are probably much better built and sounding too.

If I won the lottery then I'd probably get one. :toothy5:

Well sure the "willing" buyer dictates the end fair price, but I've never known anyone to remotely compare a high-powered Technics to the likes of a Pio 1980.
But hey, what's three grand ? ... :confused1:

I gotta agree with Webby on this one( easy guys), the collectibility of the big Technics is probably in play more than anything, but ya gotta admit it's a BAD LOOKIN MO FO!!

I have owned a couple of Technics receivers over the years and they were excellent units that ran like champs.

I know members who have $2-3000 into their cassette decks - mostly, those infamous TOTL decks of the 80's to 90's. It's not cheap to keep this old stuff going better than factory-stock.

I wish I could remember which Technics receiver I had back in the 80s. It was a "New Class A" that weighed a ton and cranked like a mofo. You could heat the livingroom with it! It had a weird holographic display on it that reminds me of the Sansui reverb units. Anybody know which one I am talking about?

My old SA-200 only put out around 25-30 watts I think and I had to have some solder joints fixed and install new dial lamps, and it was really nice with Altec Model Ones...REALLY NICE

But I spent all of FIVE DOLLARS to buy it, and they want twice as much as one listed in 2013 on USA Audiomart. It's a free economy, true and you're free to make that shot at your dream but...

It's really a bad time to do things like this, listing five days before Christmas at the price of a recent used Buick 4-door. There isn't enough money left over there for anything but getting food at Fred Meyer.

My best guess is that the ad went up so that people like us would find it and spread the message.

They should have done this earlier...

Then I have to wonder if it's a scam. They left a PHONE NUMBER though.

Craigslist is apparently over the moon in San Antonio... http://www.mysanantonio.com/busines...ruck-is-up-for-sale-on-Craigslist-5964126.php (The old Twinkie truck could come in handy for the others shown)

Somewhat NOT SAFE FOR WORK, as the lone comment pointed out.

I figured out which one I had, it was a SA-1010 which I think was the most powerful receiver offered the year of release, I know it was TOTL for the Computer Controlled New Class A's. It was rated at 120wpc minimum but I swear it was an easy 160wpc. Bitch would get hot but she sounded so damn good. I am currently trying to find another one for the bedroom system to drive a pair of The Smaller Advent Speaker's that have better woofers in them but still have the classic fried egg tweeters

HEAT--that seems to be the problem with New Class A...

I gave a much less potent 80s model to a friend and they voiced their concern that it was going to start a fire or something...it was operating nominally, used a Darlington IC amp too.

My Sansui 5050 and Pioneer SX-D7000 take a while to get warm, and not THAT warm vs. the NCA.

I had a similar 25 watt Hitachi that was a small heater too.

It seems to be what you get from that type of amp.

Ron: SpeakerLabFan had one years ago, as an internet search netted me that info.

Maybe he will see this thread, I mentioned I was looking for one on AK but I don't want one with issues. I always kept mine well ventilated but the cooling on these sucked, very little ventilation. The boards inside tend to warp from heat, especially around the expansion section that the weird display was connected to. Other then that, I think it was one of the best Technics monster receivers made

I've had an eye out for a New Class A amp for some time, but not for that kind of money. Three grand for a receiver?! Dayam! For that, I could buy something exotic and high-end.
