no, but i think i could widen the holes slightly with what have on hand, just enough to slide these into place.
from there, i can trace the lead wires to the original contact plates, and solder in new wires at their sources
to wrap and solder to the inner tips of those binding posts, which seem conveniently designed just for the purpose...

I've thought of that too and wouldn't recommend it. Best to just add spade lugs to the wires and use the common screws I'll add before I send them. I'll try to get pictures up before I get out of here to send a cassette deck off. You might ask Nakdoc if he has anything like them.

really? i should be able to find some decent spades locally. still, i'm not sure what harm these binding posts would be, you'd think them a major improvement even.
would they actually impede the electrical conductivity or something?

Tasuke, if you have a hardware store nearby (Ace, True Value, Home Depot, Walmart, electric supply or a farm supply store even) then spade connectors are dirt cheap and you get a Tonne of them or maybe they sell them by the piece, many of them have bins like our True Value that sell nuts and bolts in drawer displays like Radio Shack did capacitors and stuff.

I got that cassette deck sent, now I need to get the speakers out.

OK, if you say so. i've always heard that "five-way binding posts" such as these
make for very best sort of loudspeaker terminals, but perhaps that is just audiophile marketing?
i mean, it would take mere minutes for me to adapt these into place, -i'm competent enough with the soldering iron and all-
but if you feel this strongly about the adequacy of the screw-type bindings, i'll put faith in your opinions upon them.
i have a plethora of hardware and farm supply outlets here in HERMISTON, including an ACE and HOME DEPOT.
i'll have to hit one of them up for some gold-plated spades tomorrow when we head into town again...

In Steve's defense there is nothing wrong with a good Kelvin connection, that can be accomplished with the 5 way binding posts also, potato, patahto...

You can possibly find good terminal screws as well if you show them this (I had the other one off and will find it and get it back on but you can show them this picture.

You won't have to now--I found three of the correct type on repair units that i can swap out.

Now I just have to check them out and pack, and send at some point.

i'll see about getting some spades soon. worst case, i can wrap bare wire, but spades would definitely contribute to a fare cleaner more foolproof connection with these i think.
also, i dug around in my crap some, and found some pre-cut self adhesive velcro tabs that will work nicely for making the grilles easily removable.

i could be mistaken, but those latticework grilles, fancy as they may be, will surely behave much like the acoustic equivalent of a cheese grater,
and as such, i'm farly convinced that i'll be wanting to run these things with the grilles off at least 90% of the time...

Why don't I just hook them up to the Sony STR-VX550 I got today and test that theory?

PS It's gentle on speakers-the volume comes up gradually like a few CD jukeboxes I've seen.

Certainly saves you from accidentally jamming your speakers when you switch it on throttled up.

Okay, I think I have the mod figured out and it's nothing radical, it's more of something it seems some Pioneer owners do. I believe the tweeter level (HIGH LEVEL) control has been bypassed leaving all control at the source. That was a good idea in my opinion. I've only tried them out with the radio and cassettes but I'm going to play some CDs (St. Elsewhere by Dave Grusin sounds like a nice choice for one)...

in other words, those control pots on the back panel have been rendered redundant?

kind of interesting, the 90's CS-G503 4-ways i have are rather large but lightweight cabinets,
-with the supertweeter wired in series to the tweeter- and all of that wired to a teeny tiny little X-OVER assy.
directly mounted off of the speaker terminal body, all drivers wire with tiny little 20ga.-ish lead.
and for all that general cheap-and-cheese, i tend think they sound damned good to this day.

all told, i'm quite willing, however, to entertain the notion that i simply have yet
to bear witness to a truly good speaker system...
