Ok. Nice to know I recognized my limitation.

Nobody changed the time clock at the shop---jeez---it never ends somedays. Back in 30.

Dude advertised a Crown DC300 amp on ebay. Said "DC300" in the title and in the description. He sent me an original DC300A manual. Different animal! Now what?

Actually, he just sent me a full refund and told me to discard the manual. He goes by "mlclark" I thanked him but I may keep the manual just for the heck of it.

What do you need Mark, the DC-300 manual? Let me check to see what format I have it in.

I found one in poor condition in PDF but I have not yet printed it out. My printer at home won't do two-sided print like the one at work does. I like the original manuals because they feel like a piece of history.

The Yammy C-2 (a, x) is all discrete as well Lee, that is one of its best points...

The C-2a has one of the best phono stages of any pre made (excluding separate phono stages that is). That is what I got if for.

That is good to hear. I recently picked up a C2A that is in the shop at the moment. I have a couple pre's to compare it to that have fine phono stages, Spec 1 and Accuphase C200, should be interesting. I like that the C2a has a MC phono stage, as none of my other pre's has one. I recapped the C2A before it went to the shop, so I took a good look at her. Very well built. It has a chassis within a chassis, and you slide out one from the other to gain access to the PCB's for service.

I think you will enjoy the C-2a, it is well known for its excellent phono stage and tailorable resistive and capacitive loading for the MC stage which, as you note, it very unusual for a preamp.

It is built like a tank, not like the more consumer grade gear that Yamaha put out. It was units like this that put Yamaha on the map in the audio space in the first place.

Hi Joe, I read your a crown guy, let me ask you, in your opinion what do you think of the PSA2, sound quality? I know its a rock solid amp and basically industrutable..but i question the sound quality sometimes..

Hi John
PSA2 is an excellent amp for sure, many audiophiles swear by them.

My personal preference however is for the very early Crown DC-300 and DC-300A amps as these were before Crown went all professional PA. The DC-300 started out as an audiophile amp before the roadies discovered how reliable they were and made them the staple of rock band PA systems. The DC-300s are all I own (4 of em). The PSA2 introduced the box chassis and cooling fans which I prefer not to have (they make noise).

Now if a Reference 1 came along at the right price :-)

Or a Distinction Series DL-2............................

One of the problems with Crown collecting is they made so many different amp models that you never get a chance to try more than a small fraction of the product they designed and manufactured. Too many items on the menu :-)

I should add that despite the number of Crown amps I have, the sound of the Phase Linear amps is superior for music listening to my ears.

I know I have been trying to get a Refrence myself...either one would be nice. There were 2 types..? rite.
I'm trying to get ahold of a couple DC-150's...my friend won't part with them though..
