Sutton now has K-Horns !!!

The bass goes off the charts when ya get em in some corners!!
 
I second that! Had a chance to listen to them (renovated crosses) in a big room powered by valve amp RADFORD STA 25 Renaissance (50W @ 4ohms). Shaking bass...

Those are the exact same kind they're trying to pawn off in Chicago for $3900.
 
Thanks for all those links. I think Kevin counted about seven or eight pairs of speakers in my listening room today. He reminded me I need to get rid of a bunch of stuff in this room and he is right. I may totally reconfigure the entire setup. I have WAY TOO MUCH stereo stuff in this area, and I need to get down to a more manageable number of components and speaker pairs. Getting the K's into the best corner(s) is going to be key. I really only have one decent corner in this room, so I will be building a false wall for one of the Ks. I guess it is time to relegate all my analog and tube gear to a different place in the house. And oh yeah, the sub...I think I'll keep it handy to see if I'm going to need it.

And build a new Top Hat for them, using the BMS midrange, Tractxix horns and Crites Tweeters. We thought that I can then keep the original top enclosure original, in case anyone wants it down the road. Should help maintain some value to a collector.

They sound sooooo good......
 
You won't need the sub....it will sound "mushy" next time you hear it....

Right on Sutton!!! I've had my dream speaks for what? 2 months now? I plopped them down where the AR boxes were...just to get a feel for the sound, like you my head blew off! Getting a feel/sound of what you have making everything 'new' again means much fun till you get it 'Right'!!

Yours will take much less time to fine tune....Dayum, have fun buddy!! They look lovely!
 
I just listened to a Fourplay CD that I have listened to hundreds of times and heard things I have never heard before.

Percussion parts, guitar riffs, and vocals which I previously had never known were there.

Even the stuff I was familiar with took on a new tonal texture.

The basic mix of the CD sounds different.

It's almost like I'm listening to a different version of the songs.

Other than moving these speakers into corners I don't know if I want to change a thing about them.

I didn't realize what Klipschorns were capable of....no wonder they have been in continuous production for almost 70 years.

I think maybe I was under the impression that somehow the drivers and crossovers in these things would be a little inferior.. a little dated or something...boy was I wrong.

I have never ever heard anything like this. And I have heard a LOT of stuff in my lifetime.

Even at CES in Vegas a few years ago...nothing like this. Pipedreams were good... Manley Labs was really good....but not like this setup...

Of course they are being driven with the Phase Linear 3300 pre and the 400, both top of the game components since Joe, Jer, Lee and whomever else has contributed, but MY GOD.....

I AM NOT CHANGING A THING.....







now I do have all the internals for another set....wonder what a new build would sound like?


I simply cannot imagine any better.........
 
The Al K crosses are a world better than the Crites....

One in and one not !!!! Im in the same shape Sutton is in !!!! No wait... Mine are not sitting in the middle of the floor !!!!! LOL !!! You know im going to hack on you Sutton till you get those things moved out from in front of the TV !!!

I have them in place in my system, with one good corner, and one I'll have to build, but they sound great. I am really enjoying them. I am using the Las Scalas in front also, and will use my Linus Arrays in the rear. I want to be able to run either stereo or 5.1 using the Klipschorns for front speakers, but I know that didn't work well for Kevin's system. He is running his K Horns as Center ...and we have almost exactly the same systems...same electronics, TV's, down to the same cables...

I'm enjoying them, and can't even imagine them sounding any better, but ultimately I need to build new Top Hats for them and use the BMS drivers, Tractrix horns....etc..It will be interesting to A/B them with original mid and tweet, and upgraded drivers..
