Miles: It is quiet for now. Do you know if there are any other must-do minor servicing things to do on this model of deck?
Not more than usual, you know perfect what to take home.

Is the capstan motor always running when the deck is switched on, or does it only run when pressed the "play" or "record/play" buttons?

The capstans run continuously with the deck powered on, Miles.

At least he HAD ONE. I've never seen a Sony cleaning cassette, much less a VINTAGE ONE.

Good thing you found a Sony cleaning cassette because everyone knows you have to use a Sony on a Sony.
Cleaning cassettes are for sissies ! :happy2: Unless, of course, you're cleaning an in-dash.

I could stick the backup drive on here and pull up the Agents Of Fortune artwork where I replaced some of the cards with 1970s HF tapes...

Tape head cleaning cassettes are for sissies? True, Tony, but, I couldn't resist the photo op.

I bet Nav could come up with his own rendition of what he recommends as a good head cleaner.

It's casual Nando.

Your photo's are always fun and if I had some Sony related sideline products, I'd be featuring those in photo-ops too !

I always wanted one of those Sony ES lighted signs proudly displayed at authorized retailers.
Had I jumped at the few opportunities I had to snag one, it would have been in my photos along the way ...

... now I'm eagerly awaiting the Nav head polisher solution!

Love to see any of your Sony accessories, Tony. I'm going to check if I have a Sony remote control to operate this deck. As far as dealer signs, here's an extraordinary gift from Lee, and Ben handled the purchase and delivery:

Ben: You probably have the Sony MiniDisc lens cleaning accessory, too.

Right you are Nando, I forgot I had that tucked away.

Also have a small stash of NOS Sony MD's.

Ben: There you go - so I'm not the only follower of the Sony faith. Looking around, I have more Sony gear than I thought.

That's a good score Nando :hello1:
If I remember this deck has a TCM200 tape transport but belt drive.

This makes a good combo, 950ES for recording, 677ES for playback

Thanks, Leo. This model has a TCM-200V4 tape mechanism, as I found out after downloading the service manual. I may give it a whirl recording this evening.
