Shoot out

Cool looking DAC. I'm watching some CDps will let you see my choices. Lee it wasn't the money. I feel bad you never got to hear them in a good way. I think this system will do good in the living room. I found a Creek CDP yesterday. I haven't found anyone in Canada or the US selling Shanling. Wonder what it would sound like with the mods?

Larry

Well I just hooked the Shanling up W/O the preamp. Warmer sound coming out of the tube outputs. Just hit the upsampling. Didn't do squat. I listen to the same CD for days when I start playing with the gear. Sitting here thinking Life Is Good. Gotta go take my cough meds.

Even in the garage system the Onix beat it bad. So no I didn't even carry it in from the Garage. Who knows it could have had synergy. Oh well we shall never know. LOL Sounds so good I may buy an equalizer to compensate for the room.

I was thinking I should have bought the Shanling CDP when it popped up at Innovative Audio last year.

Larry, has the Shootout got a defintive winner? How about on looks alone?

Nando.

Looks and sound it is the Shanling by far. Then The Onix then I don't know. Which every one loses it will be up for sale. That is between the Parasound and the Grant Fidelity.

God that's a beautiful piece of gear, period. Gorgeous.

I am sure I have been prejudiced, the Parasound equipment that I have heard has not been impressive to me in any way, mostly the amps is what I have heard but I found them very much lacking, under powered for there rating at the least.

That Parasound is internally overbuilt. Your just doing it wrong.

Let me clarify my statement. I did not say it sounded BAD. I haven't looked at any prices. Hey when I put the Para in the garage it sounded best. TILL I brought the Onix into the mix. So I brought the Onix into the house. It got slapped pretty hard by the Shanling. Now I haven't tried the Para though. So today I may try it a few different ways. Really I hate having to use a pre amp. So I do doubt I will bring it in the house. Being in my garage is not a bad thing. It may sound better than the Grant Fidelity which to get a half of the Shanling sound I had to run the anti-jitter and the DAC. The GF is tubed. Don't remember if I rolled them. I'm not going to say this one cost this much so it has to sound better. That isn't me at all. I'm not going to sugar coat anything just because I own it. If I have never owned a piece of gear. I'm not going to say it is bad or good just by reading.

I was kidding of course. But if it's promising it may be worth the chip/black gate upgrade- I wonder.

I will see what a DAC and reclock can do for it. Didn't notice that it was dead sounding till I hooked up the Onix and it came to life. Few things can be changed inside to enhance it. I never throw things away. If they have a good base design I will think of what can be done. That takes a bit of research.

I believe that is them. I think that's linked off eBay where I see the upgrades for sale
