Replacing the K's woofers!!

Thanks George!!

No voice coil is bullet proof. You thrash 'em, they overheat.
Think of electric radiators. The more volts, the more they WILL glow...
It usually happens just as you're thinking ".... that's the best I've ever heard them." That's when they die.
You just have to back off that 10%.
Once you've done it a few times, you'll start to recognise that point. ;)

Woofers are like racing, you don't know how fast you can go until you are not going anymore. (I don't like the word crash)
My JBL 252-8 woofers are rated at 600W RMS continuous. There is a story at West LA Music about a guy who connected a quad JBL woofer cabinet to 120VAC for a second and the woofers hummed at 60Hz and didn't blow, that is 1800W RMS.

Yeah the woofs are direct radiators on the Altecs so I can go a little higher.

Consensus seems to show the k33s roll off after 2000hz. That'll do.

Those Crites woofs look real nice for the price. My Altec 422-8z woofs are technically guitar speakers.......

I love hearing stories like that. Makes me go all squishy inside. :)
