Like my BlueTooth ?
Got a B&K PRO10 Preamp. I love the damn thing. Only thing is that when I have it hooked up to my amplifier RCA or XLR I get a good loud low level hum through my speakers. I know it's not the amplifier. I have a few other preamps that I have ran with the same setup that do not do it. I have tried lifting the ground and that does nothing. Something to think about though. It does not do it through the headphone jack. Any clues that might lead me in the right direction before I start going crazy shotgunning this thing with all new caps? The below is the only schematic I can find for it even though there were several model PRO10's made with different layouts.

Well now, I decided to hook it back up and re position everything. Take it out of the (wood) rack and put it on my desk. Listen to the headphones for a while. Sounded good. Just shaking my head still not really understanding right? Decided to connect it back up to the amp where it sat and now it sounds normal. Some kind of interference in the rack area. I will have to hunt it down.

Not too terrible close but probably closer than it should be. The house is 2300 sq.ft. I don't know about to y'all but to me that's huge. It's a Brady Bunch tri level so I have to light it up to get good coverage.

Loved my Pro-10 back in the day. I remember the 10 being pretty transparent. I'd be honestly curious to see how it would stack up against my Audible Illusions - I think the vintage is such it's just a few years newer than the B&K. Completely different design, of course, but would be fun to see how they both sounded.

Will say this. It doesn't like being too close to the B&K Reference 4420 amplifier. That is what is making the noise. When I move them apart then I get no noise. Crazy because they are supposed to be straight up mates. It sounds great otherwise. No work done on it at all. Completely stock.

With the exception stacking my Exposure integrated on top of my Parasound amp, I've always kept preamps away from amps by a few feet. May be that the Exposure's control section was passive, so it might not have mattered (it was, after all, housed with the 75 watt/channel amp in the same box). Never had issues, but it seems a good practice.

I have never had this problem before but now I certainly have. I have heard of people saying the same thing. Keeping the components apart. Just never would have dreamed that the matching components would have done this.

I have two of these Ref 4420 B&K amps. I am going to swap this one for the other one then put the pre back in the old position and just see what happens for the hell of it. Rack is easy to get to because I swap out equipment a lot.

Lol, my little wood one is on wheels. Bought it from an older guy in Opelika Al. He built it himself for his audio equipment. Has one little glass shelf and a drawer with a cabinet for stuff underneath. Its quite humble. I like it a lot. Its nothing much but its sturdy and I like the open back design. I have never put the Krell on top of it but I have put some damn heavy amps on top like a Parasound and it never even flinched. It ain't pretty but I don't give one shit about all that. I got a pretty one built to the highest audiophile standards with glass and shiny metal and isolation things and all and I don't really even use it besides you gotta dust it every ten minutes because it collects dust like a magnet. I like the simple wood look just fine and knowing that it was hand built by a fellow that loved stereo stuff makes it even better to me. I can hardly build jack shit out of wood. I cant cut or measure worth a shit. I am one of those guys that cant cut a straight line on a table saw. HA!
