Przem's Phase Linear 700 Series II White Oak Conversion

RMS power was into 8 ohms with both loaded and driven...right at 520 per....

Didn't check rail voltage when loaded, but that's a good idea....tomorrow....

You did a bang up job on this one Lee. It's good to see you back on the bench and to see those wonderful reports from the AP. Przem hit the nail on the head that the before and after results were dramatically different.

Thanks FaboNav....I agree a totally different beast..

Przem and all,
I have understood that in this forum most of you have high efficent speakers like KHorn and so on ( about 100 dB spl/mt )
powered by PL 400 or 700b ( not stock but WOPL )
To be honest I don't understand this amount of power .
At least I and my father have AR , Allison and Infinity ( 84-86 dB ) and so PL and Carver are the right solution .
Anyways I also understand that is fantastic to have a Ferrari or a Lamborghini and that this an hobby and we are
here for amusement .
It's only a my curiosity , because I 'm trying to understand your ideas about hi fi .

Marco, more clean power means more headroom and less potential for distortion/clipping

Northwinds ,
you are theoretically right , but at this point I presume you mainly listen to rock music and that in US the room sizes
are bigger than in Europe . I believe these are the main reasons . Do you confirm ?
Besides I and my father generally listen to classical music ( Bethoven , Mozart , Bach , etc. )
Anyways Phase Linear is always Phase Linear ( and Carver too ).

Przem ,
I can adfirm that at my home ( and my father's home too ) the sound is great .
No hum , no buzz , etc. Not only , I had to attenuate the output of PL 4000 and C4000 ( ca 6dB ) to
to have good adjument of master volume .
Obviously I can't give you the evidence .
Conclusion : sound is a sensation and it's impossible to measure or evaluate.

Marco
Ps: enjoy your WOPL 700 tailored by Lee ( very good job )

Marco, in my case I love to be able to replicate the concert experience in my basement...and I have this passion to vibrate my eyeballs ater a particularly bad day at work. And I can attest to the fact my tunebox has saved numerous lives that might have been at risk if not for the OVERWHELMING quality and intensity of my system at Mach9...

Marco, I listen to anything ranging from heavy metal to baroque organ music. My living room is 26' x 22'

You need that kind of power especially for baroque organ because you run out of amp awful quick. Who wants to hear a cathedral organ at conversation levels? Same goes for symphony orchestra pieces

At this point I can't reply , because ( I repeat ) the sound is a sensation .
We could discuss about noise , THD, slew rate , dynamic range , damping factor etc , but
the right thing to do is that we should listen together to our gears at our home , but it's impossible .
Anyways let's enjoy our PLs.
Ciao
Marco
