Preamp recommendation

Nice!

The 4401 does 4, but there is something amiss with my rear channels atm. Havent put much time into investigating it though. May have had a setting wrong. Would need to consult the manual for a more serious approach.

Dave: You already run an SAE 2800 parametric equalizer. How about a matching SAE 2100L preamplifier?

Nando.
Nando, that's one beautiful piece of gear. SAE does a great job...I love my 2800 parametric, it's so well made. How does the performance stack up?

I never liked it, but ive been there many times myself.

This one is Rob's 4401, its a newer model with rounded knobs and a "light duty" power cable.

Ben: Is the 4401 meant for four channel configuration: front right, front left, right rear, left rear?

Nando.

Dave: Thanks. I haven't patched the 2100L into my system to find out, yet. Me...I hang onto components until I'm ready to set them up within a complete system. I have a matching SAE T-101 tuner, too. But, it needs to be resoldered by a pro as I don't have a wiring schematic for it. Someone before me, disconnected some wiring, left a crudely drawn diagram of how to reconnect the wires, and I don't think it was correct when I resoldered the connections.

Here's a matching tuner

Well, I found a nice looking SAE 2100L on ebay that I've put a bid up for, so wish me luck, guys!
It looks like a clean piece, and from what I have learned it's a nice preamp.
That old SAE gear sure is nice to look at, and I really like my 2800 parametric eq. Sounds great, and if this preamp is as nice as the eq is, I'll be one happy man.

I hope it works out in your favour, Dave, and the SAE 2100L will fit your needs. Perhaps, I will be looking for more SAE components for a small SAE rack system. I have a nice black Middle Atlantic Products stand for rack-mountable components, already.

For awhile, then an SAE 2400, then a tuner, then a CDP, then..... it keeps on going..

They'll do 275-290 per channel into 8 both loaded and driven..

Just got my recapped Yamaha C-2a on the rack and I gotta say, the best I've owned to date. Highly recommended.

There are a few good preamps. I bought a kit and did my own components. I bought them as I could afford them. Lee built it. I had lost my glasses and couldn't see squat. It is tubed. If you want a SS there are a lot of kits. Then you know what is in it. Plus you can do some pretty nice components. Your pots, selectors, resistors, caps, wiring. May pull the Nikko pre out of the line up this AM. Put the PHX in it's place. Just a thought.

Agree, the Yamaha C-2a and C-2x are both right up there with the Accuphase C200. But the Yamaha has a better MC/MM phono stage in it.

For line level sources, (CD, tuner) I also thought the C-2a bettered the C200. I get to hear more "stuff" with the C2a is how I would put it.
