Picked this one up off shitbay for a ridiculous price. It's a bit rough round the edges but
all works well and sounds fantastic. I noted recently that my setup is out. I mounted the
arm at 235.0mm instead of the correct 230.0mm. Note the cartridge sticks out 5.0mm from
the front of the head shell.
I scored a new plastic lid for this table and a SME mounting plate. I intend to do an electrical
(Good guide on AK for the electrical rebuild) and cosmetic restoration on this table in the near
future. This table will have a Mission 774 arm and a keotsu black fitted later.
 
Thorens TD150, Grace 707, ATOC9

Much loved Thorens TD150. This table has been much modified. New Hardwood Plinth,
Separate power supply with over sized toroid transformer and clean power supply, cork
damping applied, platter mat and other mods long forgotten about.
This table has the sweetest musical midrange but misses a bit with less than solid Bass.
Easy to use but tuning the suspension is a PIA and it must be done every now and then
to keep the SQ A1.
 
Garrard 401 (initial test only)
Setup very roughly a while back. Still deciding which way to go with a plinth for this one.
Initial testing sounded very good but the motor needs service as fastest speed setting
was only just enough to keep 33 1/3 going

Gamve
Does the carbon brush work better than the Discwasher fluid and wooden block? I have both. I have to get that TT out of the closet and change the stylus. Sometime soon. Something I have never done. All I have to do is pull the old stylus off with tweezers and put the new one on?

Which cartridge Larry?

Most you can grasp the body of the sylus with your fingers and gently pull it from the cartridge body. Reverse for installing the new stylus.

Nice TTs Gamve. I am so gentle with mine. I'm scared I'll mess them up. And as I stated before. I hate setting up a TT.

As Fairchild states. Most of the MM stylus are on a removable head setup and you can usually just remove the head with your fingers. If in doubt about the procedure, check the manufacturers website.

Once you become accustomed to the steps and you are comfortable using the tools, setting up a new arm or cartridge can be fun. Sometimes it is dead easy and works first time, other times pays to leave it alone for a while till you cool down.
Iv'e come to grips with it a bit now but can understand your reluctance to tackle it...... :)
Only one way to learn this unfortunately.
