Hi All,

Nice photos as usual, I think you may have posted that 2nd one some place as I remember seeing it before. Are those AKG 240 headphones? I have a pair of those from when I was into the multi-track recording phase, they are nice.

The guy got back to me that has the CTF1000. It has a FF/REV fast winding problem but other wise works. He wants a $100 for it but I think that is a little high being it needs to be fixed and I am not sure what is broke. Is located east of here about 40 miles so will see if he is willing to deal a bit better. In the mean time I'll search a little and see if this is a common issue with an easy fix.

Larry, you live to far away or I would gladly help. Ha, Only been to the DC area of VA so don't think I would want to move there. I am told there are much nicer parts though. The 707 should be a nice deck and I think it also has auto reverse.

Nando, thanks for the speaker models, it will give me something to research as a starting point if nothing else. Hard to go wrong with either good EV or JBL's...

I played the tape recorded on the 701 back on the Teac last night and it transfered pretty well. Really need a reference tape to check the speed on these decks. I am pretty sure the Teac is off a bit after fixing the capstan issue. When I have a minute am going to record my reference CD to a reel on the 701 and then set the speed on the Teac using it as a reference. I don't know if the Pioneer is on or off but I know the Teac has been messed with so will just assume the Pioneer is the closest of the two. If I was thinking I would of ask FF to record me some tones on his deck when I was over there a couple weeks back, oh well, maybe next time.

Yes, I am a lost cause.... but have been told that for years! :D

LOL Robert I'm about an hour out of DC depending on traffic. I live in the Shenandoah Valley. The northern part we are still very country here. No I was just kidding I know what to do. It is just doing it. LOL

Robert if you need to make some reference tapes i can send you this Leader wow and flutter meter. I won't be using it for quite awhile and would be more than happy to let you use it as long as you needed too. Hell, we can make it a traveling meter if other members can get some use out it. It's just gonna sit here, not doing a thing, and i abhore waste like that.

Hi Robert,

Yes, on the AKG K240s. I have a few pair of ecclectic headphones, including a pair of quads. But, the AKGs are the pair I regularly use for recording.

As an example, Innovative Audio recently sold two Pioneer CT-F1000s for $175 each. They were in serviced condition with IA's standard warranty. Both sold immediately after word got out about the Cassette Deck Shootout on the IA web site. When we conducted the Shootout with Gordon's personal CT-F1000 and found how well his deck played and recorded, he offered the deck from the display centre for sale to show this wasn't any sort of anomaly. We got the same great results. Here's the article from IA's web site:

http://www.iavscanada.com/art_cassette_shootout.htm

You'll find all the pictures related to the Cassette Deck Shootout on THs. I think, that's where you may have spotted my pictures, first.

It's interesting: I found when recording from well-engineered CDs onto open reel tape the recording sounded better than the original. Perhaps, you'l find the same.

Nando.

Lee, thanks for the offer....... I may take you up on that meter loan but let me try to get caught up on some things around here so it would just not sit and not be used. As you can tell I am not fond of having things just sit around.

Larry, I know you were foolin'..... I am just not all that fond of MN. Have lived other places so roots are not all that deep! Not sure where I want to live next but MN is not on the list. Actually love the mtns and western US most.

Nando, I'll check out the article...... $175 serviced sounds like a great deal.....

My engineering buddy just sent me some info on the casting materials. Crips, more stuff to read and try to understand.... I need longer days and less day job pains.

Thanks All,
Robert

I always said I would never live where I have to lock my doors. No one in my family locks their doors you just walk in. I can see mountains any where I look here. I think last census it was 29,000 people in my county. My town only has 9,000. Jerry has been here. He lives on the other side of the mountains. I'm not even a half mile from the Shenandoah River. I swore when I was young I would never come back; but I am here. And I love it.

I'm only 2-3 hours from some of the finest trout fishin in the west, 3 hours from the Big Horn river in Mt., and 3 hours from the North Platte. 2 hours from the Big Horn Mts. I'm home.

Dude that looks like a skeeter nursery to me
Buzzzzzzzzzzzzz!! Believe it or not, it's not near as bad as most other places in this waste land called MN. I think the saving grace is the mud hole is about 40 feet below the house grade and the wind generally blows away from the house towards the swamp. I'd trade for mtns any day!

Robert, I think you'd love it out here, 75% of the year the weather is gorgeous! Just those pesky summer months can be a PITA, you could always bunk with FF for the summertime, and allow him to visit a couple times in the winter in exchange. We're in a valley and the mtns are a short hours drive (very senic btw) from midtown, you can ski in the winter!!

Hey, so this thread has mistracked as badly as a Nakamichi Dragon with a seized NAAC. Here are my thoughts: many of us are at the age that we are living where we are because we love where we live. I didn't think how badly I would miss leaving my little town, until we were about to make a decision to relocate to where work is available. That's not an ideal situation. As much as I might like travelling and visiting outside of my locale, it's always comforting when you are making those last turns on that familiar stretch of highway before getting home.

Nando, as always you have a way with words, there's a hill like that coming home from the river where ALL OF GILLETTE comes into view all at once, ever once in awhile brings tears to my eyes.

I, always, get sappy after a few Budweisers. Back into the recording room, for me. Nothing better than relaxing with some cold ones after a hard day's work and listening to tunes while recording. Does that bring tears to your eyes, too, Lee? I thought so.

I lived so many places growing up that in general home is where I happen to hang my hat and park the toys. Have been in MN 20+ years and never once felt like it was home. Only came and stayed here as jobs were always good and paid well. When I lived in OK for a couple years that really felt like home though the biggest hill was a dirt pile. Would have stayed buy poor pay and 65-70 hour weeks left no time for a life. Have been out Lee's area years ago, still like the west in general of the 30+ states I have been to. I really plan to go someplace else in the not to distant future as there is are real ties to stay here. Would like to semi-retire, work just enough so it's fun, and do odd hobby type of things the rest of the time.
