I’m not sure. Maybe a wall mount shadow box or something.

I’ll have to get a rider on my homeowners if I take them out of the safe however.

2nd post and it just has to be in this thread!
Sony Metal ES '88 era is the favourite. Not the easiest tpae to extract the best results from but when you hit the sweet spot.... mmm

grey hubs version is from 1985 while that white hubs version is from 1986-87.
The 1988 version has a different shell with smaller window (the so called infinity shell).

totally agree about it being a wonderful tape, one of the very best metals ever.
Love it.

You're right. My bad.
The 85-87 wide-window ES's as above are actually my favourites but the '88 era narrow-window are on a par and probably a bit easier to record to and have actually measured better than Sony Metal Master in some tests.
Some say they use the same tape as MM's but I'm not convinced. Either way the're a damn sight cheaper to buy NOS than MM's!

I have to pinch myself when I remember what's stashed in the bottom drawer of my little tape cabinet.

i also own a few Metal ES from 1985, 1986-87 and 1988-89, like on your picture.

actually, i've carefully measured the 1985 version and its performance, on decks which can fully exploit them (i.e. with amorphous heads and properly done REC EQ filters) is impressive, with a MOL in the +12,7dB VU to 13dB VU.

Never tried metal master, but i doubt it can do better.
Both are dual coated tapes based on Sony's extralloy formula.

Father's Day weekend here in the US and my town has big yard sales on Friday and Saturday every year on this weekend.
Went looking and found 40 for $40.
The seller said they've been recorded on once.
He dated the TDK J cards as 1984, the Memorex are dated on the cards from 1977 to 1983.

Thanks, I wasn't sure sure until I got them home, sorted, and looked them up to see what they're selling for.
They'll get me started once I get the PL7000S2 repaired.
I do need to find some specific blank types for the alignment. But that's so far down the road that I've got plenty of time to find them.
I'm thinking I have 2 of the 4 types needed in that stack.
Just taking it step by step.
Gee, I have a pre-recorded Pretenders tape now!
Wonder if the 94 Chevrolet minivan cassette player works?

Sony Metal-ES

@Chris Cables and I did a mix tape exchange using NOS Sony Metal-ES90 cassettes. It was a very rewarding exchange and that's why I hope to follow up with another tape swap with Chris.

Chris' mix tape:

And the Sony Metal-ES90 tape I used for recording a copy for Chris:

And playback of one of the tracks on Chris's mix tape:
