Maxell XLI-S 90

Thanks, Lee. The Sony WM-D6C is an infamous Walkman.

These are premium Type I cassettes - Maxell XLI-S.

Broken beyond repair but highly affable
I have two of the three models of Pioneer walkmen from 1983 I know of over at Nakdoc's shop and hopefully both can be repaired...

PK-5AW (YL yellow) all weather player with Dolby

PK-R7AW (RD red) recorder with Dolby

Both with AMS and autoreverse.

There is also a base model PK-3 in silver, red, blue and yellow.

I have many brands and varieties of cassettes. I like most of them all, even some stuff that turned out bad (it was from TH's Freddy1, it helps me remember him) and especially Phoenix Audio Tapes. Many of you helped me get started after years without new cassettes and I still send them as gifts and sell a few cheap to help others start.

I recently picked up some sealed Maxell MX 110 cassettes, along with a number of other good ones. Just trying to figure out the vintage of them through the vintagecassette site.

I have a contact, who knows I'm into cassette and Mini Disc portables, and I picked up a few neat items, including the tapes, from him last Friday.

I've received, and sent out more than one MX...this is the one I have left. Also have some XLI-S from about the same time.

On the subject of Type I cassettes, this Fuji FR-I Super is an excellent tape. I was surprised how much signal it could take without compromising sound quality. This one could handle a peak recording input level of up to +3 dB.

You can't go wrong with many of the Sony vintage cassettes. I have more Sony blank tapes than I do of any other manufacturer because they are that good.

and a honorable mention for this 'classic' Type III

I don't currently have a deck with a dedicated FeCr setting in the vault but would like to find one someday so I can use what I have to properly record on.
Now that i think of it, the BX-300 might handle these well...

These sounded great in the car 'way Back when' and I still have a handful of Beatles mix-tapes that play fine, recorded on my Dad's JVC.
Their big pit-fall was the lousy adhesive holding down the labels.
They always bubbled up during the rainy months.

I also had one or two that de-laminated from prolonged storage in the glove box.
The top chrome layer would peel away like dead skin. But not all of them did it. Kind of strange.

An old entry-level ferric tape from Sony. I have a few of these that had been passed down to me from a workmate and friend.

And an even older Sony HF. I have been able to do a decent recording on them.

You're a connoisseur of tape Nando, having dabbled in so many of the flavors Sony has offered over the years.
I'm more of a boxed wine kind-of-guy ... :laughing8:

Thanks, Tony. Just came home with some (real) wine - none of it, boxed, however.

Some premium That's CD/IVF tapes:

Right on, Lee. Crown Royal was on the pick-up list and I have the receipt to prove it.
