A picture from a progressive rock mix tape exchange some time ago. The mix tape in the deck is one I had just completed and was about to package and mail off. The TDK SA90 in the foreground is the one I received from Mike.

Nice choice for Sep's mix tape, Miles. Dolby C and HX Pro is a nice NR combo for this tape, but in keeping with the vintage of the TDK I'm sure Dolby B will be your first choice.

Wow, thanks Miles for using that superb tape for me and i may have a surprise for you as well in using another vintage of that old, i keep it secret for the moment... :p

As Nando suggested Dolby B should do the trick with that old tape, i can listen it on my older Onkyo from that exact era then... But if you consider using Dolby C it's ok for me and you can use whatever you consider being better, Miles...

Hmm, so Daren do likes so much Spandau Ballet? Didn't saw him yet on their fan page where i'm an active member... :toothy10: Really, they performed nicely and 80's are always the best in music... :p

With the right choice of noise reduction, you can achieve impressive results with basic ferrics. Nando and I had a memorable mix tape trade a couple of years back using cheap type I cassettes and employing Dolby C.

I'm sure Miles will knock out a great sounding tape for Sep.

Flashback To 2012

Yes, that was possibly the first time I delved into recording with a basic ferric tape for a mix tape exchange. Prior to this, I doubt you would have found many Type I blanks around my place. But Daren sparked my interest, and I'm fortunate he did. Here's Daren's tape "Mixing Link Volume 83":

Thanks for the reminder Nando.

That was such a positive experience, that I kept one of those Sony FXI tapes sealed. At some point, I will record that same mix again for myself.
