Phase Linear 700 Series II Clair Bros Serial Numbers

Clair's have machine screws in the covers not sheet metal, but if it has had a White Oak Chassis installed, it would also have machine screws. Yes Clair's have steel chassis.

Do the 400's use the same transformer as the 700?
 
Oh so I already have a piece to build a 700!! :wink: the 400 parts amp I have is a 4 fin one but the transformer in it is the type in the 8 fin amp the rectifier and caps attach to the transformer not the side

both of my 4 fins are that way, I believe its common.

The transformer from a 400 will not work on a 700, matter of fact 99.99% of it wont

Not that common. Most 4 fin units had chassis mounted caps and bridge rectifier.

The later ones had the die cast cradle just before they moved to add the extra HS fins.

And the PL400 transformers are NOT the same as the PL700 transformers. No way, no how!!

Mine has the White Oaks chassis, so a steel chassis isn't a foolproof identifier.
 
Yeah, the White Oak chassis is a whole different animal....
 
Try putting a WO top cover on anything else...............no go......
