phase linear 400

4 fin back on line...woofer duty...
still dont know why left bias is low when out of adjustment on the pot...i disassembled and cleaned them...adjusts from about 10 ohms to 300...as per specs...i tested every resistor diode transistor from side to side...was recapped...all new...
ran every trace and solder joints...
only thing...left channel is xpl909...
right channel is f pl909...
offset around 7 mv....well within specs...
right channel bias is 350 mv
left channel about 200 mv
when playing bias is between 400 and 500 mv
both side very similar...
it sounds fine...it will surfice till the wopl arrives...
looking forward to another year!!!

Very nice Gene. Shoot, use it as is for the tweeters or mid frequency drivers. Meters really don't move anyways do they?
 
I can’t really see how the face finish came out, but to get the classic “brushed” finish, tape or glue down 180-220 grit range (test to see what you like) on a piece of plate glass or a surface plate. Then set a guide block of some sort next to the paper.

Now rub the face across the paper, using the guide to keep it straight, until the entire surface is evenly “brushed”. Clean well with acetone and shoot it with clear.

i started with 240 grit then 320...then scotch brite...mostly as a test run and prepping aluminum...was not pristine when i got it....i have meter windows to cut when the meters arrive.....
then i can do the final prep....this matches the brushing on the original pl400...i think...
what clear??
should i take it to the guy that fixed my truck and let him clear it when he clears his next job?
is there a clear in aerosol?

If you can get a proper catalyzed clear from the body man, do that. Far more durable.

Otherwise Krylon Krystal Klear does a good job of not changing the color. Probably want a semi-gloss for an anodized look.
 
They anodize the plate after sanding so the color will change. You can try tinting with a clear…

First layer clear, so it’s easy to remove fukups. Then tinted clear, and then clear top coat. Same as a sunburst on a guitar.
