Usually set drivers further back as they increase in frequency. So they arrive at your ear roughly the same time.
One reason for the massively complex crossovers in Jim Thiel’s designs. Getting phase and time coherent- CS stood for “coherent source”. Jim Vandersteen is good at it as well… probably others I do t know of too…
i remember reading about that...and it was a concern when i realized my 2 part speakers were not in the same plane...i experimented briefly moving the two top drivers forward and back...but never could actually hear any difference nor see it in any of my grafting...i then realized i wasnt smart enough to worry about it ...i picked the xover points well within the freq response range so when the speakers decayed by 12+ db they were still in spec...and none of the 3 had to perform at any significant amplititude outside of their performane specs...that was about as far as i am capable to construct...
