i will have import duties and air freight on top of that....probably closer to 700 total to get into my hands....
maybe i can live without the new back plane....and stay with the point to point one....
should help a little...
or maybe a macintosh .... lol
The backplanes a lot of work and you could just go w the control board. IMO its better to do one thing at a time first.
but something you should think about is The WO backplane is Full comp which use Bothe NPN and PNP The one you have use are all NPN so theirs a cost different if you update later.

therefore i can not populate the existing backplane with 95s and 96s...???
has to have new backplane to get rid of the 909s???
Your backplane shows Quasi-Complimentary Which is all NPN (One on the bottom might be a different NPN)
I'm not a expert w the 400,,,,, I know about the 400II and 700II Full and Quasi
may be,, this is one of your problems?
Might need somebody to map it out for you?

No,
Yes, if you convert the existing backplane to full, which I just did (and board if you use the original) than you can uses both Npn and PNP (Full comp)

ok....now i am confused....lol
speak slower....lol
i want to get rid of the driver board and go to wo driver board....
i want to get rid of the pl909 chips....
i want to go to the 95s and 96s ... full complimentary...
therefore....
1.... i must change the existing original backplane...
or
2....i can use the existing original back plane
i am a black/white guy....dont have many shades of gray....
lol
thanks...

It sucks Gene, but maybe it's time to take Sniff's advice and just shotgun it. Bite the bullet and go the full comp WOPL route with new back plane, new control board, and new output transistors. You could stop troubleshooting and start building.

Don't quote me on this, but I think you would be into it for $420 plus tax and shipping:
Backplane $130.00
BP Wire Kit $16.00
Control Board $160.00
Transistors $104.00
Sil Pads $5.60
I went this route last year and have enjoyed every penny spent ... I realize you have dutie$ and other fee$ to consider, but you'll never regret that investment in quality design, parts and sound. Frankly that's all we're looking to accomplish here, right? We're fortunate to have Joe's engineering excellence and the support of so many here who want to see you succeed.

You are going to throw away the original backplane and control board.

No,,,,,, but if you modify it, Yes , I don't recommend it,, its a lot of steps to do. I do like the original backplane

music...the healer of souls...
so....i can modify the original backplane to work with the new transistors...
i much prefer to do that...save me a few bucks...and there is nothing wrong with mine...
i will be upside down in this no matter what because of the additional charges i have to pay to get things here...and my mistakes...
but, it is a hobby....just trying to get by losing as little skin off my nose as possible...lol
i think this amp did not see much service....it is not beat up at all...not one spec of rust or signs of anybody ever removing the cover...really clean...
but, as joe and sniff said...those were not high quality boards to begin with...and easily damaged or detiorated over time....
we shall see!!!!
i did place my order with joe....he can further advise me!!!!
THANK YOU...

Screw it
you are probably right....seems i am caught in a vicious cycle...lol
wont be the first....nor the last...
but, it happens....
i have 2 biological kids...born in 72 and 76...the oldest was killed in a freak accident in 83....kinda destroyed everything....there were times i did not get out of bed for weeks at a time...thank god i had good employees that kept the ship afloat...
we divorced a while later...was very hard...would not ever want to do that again....lol

before i came here....i adopted 2 boys that had it pretty rough....one was with 6 families in state care in a year...the other 5...i was the last step before being shipped to an institution....a boys home....
but, i dont give up easily....and i raised them both...they are good boys...and i am proud of them...
one is still with me....jerry....who works the cattle....cody went back to his mother....and he has since moved to houston....where he works and lives ....
then after regrouping i moved here....with my boys...
enclosed is an early pic of us exploring in the jungle....jerry did not want his picture taken....but, i said he would unless he wanted to live in the jungle alone....lol....he took the pic....cody was guarding the camera bag....lol
so many twists and turns....like joe said....life is like a box of chocolates!!!!
anyway....here we are...here and now....head down...plowing forward!!!!
lol...
joe, sniff...you aint gonna pass up this opportunity???
lol
again...take care guys...
gonna work on a new game plan....

Opportunity??

Don't do it. Spend the money and build a proper backplane. Then fit it with new 95's and 96's with Silpads and get it over with. The original backplanes are junk.

Your amp is quasi-complementary output. To make it full-complimentary, you'd need to remove the entire point to point wired back wall and sockets, and build a new one from a schematic. Bad idea, as Joe has engineered a complementary output back wall circuit board, one for each channel. Very rugged and well engineered. And not that hard to do if you can solder, follow instructions, and are mechanically inclined.
Sniff is correct.
