I'm re-capping my preamp and I ran into something weird. The manual calls for 10uf 35v caps at C42 and C43, but when I opened up the cabinet I found 0.47uf 50v caps in those locations. This unit looks to be untouched and the caps that are there sure look original. Any ideas why the wrong caps would be there from the factory? Should I install what the manual calls for or replace with the actual value caps that were on the board? Any help is sure appreciated. Thanks!
I believe in this case the manual is correct. My (2) PL2000 preamplifiers came with 10uF caps at C42 and C43. Are you sure C42 and C43 are not 47uF?
This is what I did to my PL2000 Series I:
Upgrade (C42, C43) from 10uF to 100uF/35V, Mouser P/N 647-UFW1H101MDD1TA.
Upgrade C21, C22 from .22uF to 2.2uF/50V Film capacitor. The electrolytic cap, (C44), should be upgraded to a 1uF/35V Wima Polypropylene film cap, TAW Electronics P/N MKP2D041001N00JSSD. The upgrades will flatten the Frequency Response.
I have other mods if you are interested...
