I'm re-capping my preamp and I ran into something weird. The manual calls for 10uf 35v caps at C42 and C43, but when I opened up the cabinet I found 0.47uf 50v caps in those locations. This unit looks to be untouched and the caps that are there sure look original. Any ideas why the wrong caps would be there from the factory? Should I install what the manual calls for or replace with the actual value caps that were on the board? Any help is sure appreciated. Thanks!

They are (most likely) not wrong from the factory. Phase Linear and MANY other MFGR's don't bother to go back and waste time and money to fix all the skizmo's so go with what's on the boards. Especially if they are unmolested from the factory. Sansui was the worst.

There were several variations of components on the 2000 Series 1 boards, component variations are noted on the schematic on page #8.
The one Series 1 unit I have appears to be a late production unit with the "Export" dual primary transformer and dual pot balance control. Different than the Series 1 schematic. Lots of variations on the Series 1.
I recapped the Series 1 identical to the cap values as found on the board.
The three 2000 Series 2 I have appeared to be exactly the same. I stripped those boards bare and rebuilt them with all new components. Values for all components for the Series 2 I got direct from the schematic.
Thanks to Don for posting the manual links on his WattsAbundant website.

....Thanks to Don for posting the manual links on his WattsAbundant website.
Some day I'm going to update the watts abundant web site. It's woefully outdated. Retirement is just around the corner. I've got all of the manuals scanned that I got back in 1983. I hope to get them all posted. Until then...

I believe in this case the manual is correct. My (2) PL2000 preamplifiers came with 10uF caps at C42 and C43. Are you sure C42 and C43 are not 47uF?

This is what I did to my PL2000 Series I:
Upgrade (C42, C43) from 10uF to 100uF/35V, Mouser P/N 647-UFW1H101MDD1TA. Upgrade C21, C22 from .22uF to 2.2uF/50V Film capacitor. The electrolytic cap, (C44), should be upgraded to a 1uF/35V Wima Polypropylene film cap, TAW Electronics P/N MKP2D041001N00JSSD. The upgrades will flatten the Frequency Response.

I have other mods if you are interested...
