Ok here is what I do. I only use silver solder. Always have. On my X-over all the components are secured with clear silicone. This time since I was using 12 ga. I went to Rat Shack and got some clamps to hold the wires on the X-over. I take a board and layout where everything goes. Then I start soldering. I put my x-overs in the bottom of the box out of the way. My wires are long enough to pull the speaker so you can unhook it. I usually burn in for a week. Just turn on the tuner and have it loud enough that I can't hear it.

Done deal. I think I left a pair of needle nose in the 1st one. They will stay there till I do something else with them. The sound better without all the stuff. Now I just need to see if I can blow them with the PL. LOL

I was always taught the more stuff in the x-over ie resistor and other things like CBs and L-pads changes the sound. Simple is better.

I have Model 7s

These have a 12" woofer and 2 tweeters offset to the left. I play records into a Phonomena II for my DL103, and a tubed YS Audio Concerto for MM to a YS Audio Symphonies +R preamp. This feeds a Musical Concepts modded Hafler XL280. Until a few weeks ago these were exceptional sounding speakers.

One night my neighbor came over and as we were finishing the new Black Sabbath Paranoia album I kept turning the volume up until I blew the woofer on one. Sent the speaker to Orange County for rebuilding, ordered new Solens, 1 5uf per speaker and binding posts.

After installation I played them slowly and they began to respond, better bass than before mids starting to come around and highs really cleaning up. I then put in a pair of new interconnects from pre to amp and I didnt, stupid me, double check the rcas and they were loose at the pre and blew one pair of tweeters. Found some on ebay they will be here today or tomorrow.

Those 10 of yours were made in 1977, my 7s were made in 78 as mine have a push button switch on the tweeters that were used on newer models. I will be watching you posts reguarding your progress.

Well I forgot to finish this post. I got them done. I removed everything. Went with a 2nd order passive x-over. Pulled the CBs and the tweeter switch. Used silver plated OFC 12 ga wire all through the speaker and binding posts. My bass improved. In reality the whole imaging improved. They sound very different from what the did prior to the mods.. I have them hooked up to a PL 700B that Lee modded. I have had them to 1/2 on the pre. They never missed a beat. So all I can say I got a lot of improvement out of an already good speaker.
