It's been so long since I heard it "as it was" to give a fair assessment of the electrical work. But I am certainly looking forward to it!

I’m going to do some more detailing on it but Scott uses the best parts we had for the cosmetics while it was all apart.
 
So, I did a testimonial for Scott, which I have attached here if anyone is suffering from insomnia, or has finished dusting all the baseboards and needs something to waste ten minutes reading...

Glad to hear it. In this hobby, another tech is always a good thing. I can certainly vouch for Scott's work on my Parasound amp.
 
Yeah. Once I recover from my recent cash hemorrhage I’m thinking of sending the Panasonic for a once-over. It’s been starting to run slow and then get up to speed once it warms up a bit.
 
I brought the D5 to the hi fi museum today. A customer was dropping off a Macintosh 275 for overhaul...

I let Mike listen on the Fugazi cans: “oh wow!” as he listened to the short Robbie Robertson test tape I made last night. That was running on D batteries too.

Jim: I read your testimonial for the technician who repaired your Sony portable. Was your testimonial posted on their website or made public by other means? Nice to have his efforts recognized. Nice work on your part for detailing the repairs.

About the only criticism I have of your testimonial is the use of the word "we." My wife uses that word all the time when something needs looking after and I will be the only one who can do the job. Also, the "we" word comes up often when a workmate is trying to take credit for something I accomplished or did well. I've become jaded ever since we've gone to a salary bonus system. Back in my union days I would have thought differently.

But yes, it was to be posted on his web site. He had asked for a testimonial, and based on the lack of interest elsewhere, it was nice to find someone actually excited about repairing it.

I listened to it a little bit today, but I was writing a training document so I had the Panasonic crankin' at my desk.
 
Jim: Is that fellow a specialist in portable type units?

There is WM-DM6C and a TPS-L2 I'd like to make fully operational again. Last year, they were to go to a really good local to me tech who was more than willing to take them on but he got quite sick, closing down his shop indefinately and about three weeks ago I learned he passed away. Even though I moved quite a ways away, I enisioned shipping them there for repair but that option is gone.

Since shipping somewhere would be necessary now no matter what, sending a couple of walkmen into the US would not be too horribly bad cost wise. If your guy is taking on new clients.
 
He seems to be pretty accomplished with most everything high-quality/vintage hi-fi. I found out about him from a radio friend who had him get his Teac 3300 back up and running. That led to a few conversations and his work on my amp (turned out to be a minor solder fix) that was blowing fuses. He was willing to make just the repair but we decided while he was in there to upgrade the big power supply caps. But that was my doing, not any effort on his part to up-sell. Which I liked. Along with his location about 3 miles from my house.

That led to me passing his name on to Jim once my go-to tech indicated he was winding things down towards either retirement or retirement with an option to come back on a more limited basis if things improve quickly enough. In either case, he was concentrating on getting the last-minute stuff out the door and Jim wanted a more immediate option. And Scott's probably ten years younger than me, which means he'll likely be around a few more years if he can make a go of it.

That's cool. I remember the LC King brand. They're about five hours up I-75/81 from us. Almost became the Executive Director of the Paramount Performing Arts Center some years back. It's located one block from this store and factory in downtown Bristol.
 
I was spending way too much time the other night trying to find a decent pair of jeans. Found some good ones made in Japan but also a few USA brands. Including L. C. King. Not cheap, (most are north of $100 a pair) but the "Levi's" I've been buying for the last decade or more are pretty much pure crap. Even the 501's, which were pretty consistent for a long time have gone to "stretch denim" (What!?! wash your goddamn mouth out son!) and are all soft and girly. I need proper work pants and Carhart (not their jeans) was OK for a while but if I have to do the work and dig for something I want to know it's going to fit properly (I wear a belt, and don't keep my pants' waistline below my pelvis) and last. I'm going to try "vintage" Levi's on eBay and see if I can find something reasonably priced. It's pretty bad.

My Redwing 8111's are a good example- I could get easily ten years out of a pair (current pair has been ruined by Nitric acid but I'm still wearing them). Expensive to buy but cheap in the long run. I the acid hadn't destroyed the pair I'm wearing, I'd resole them. They feel like slippers now...
 
Yeah, jeans suck now. No two ways around it. I jsut buy a pair and then another when that pair wears out. Which is too damn soon...

Don't even get me started on boots, bruh...

They make crap too, well, not Alden, but you have to be selective.
 
Ya, there's a great shoe store down by my youngest daughter's house (just north of Chickamauga National Battlefield in Fort Oglethorpe) that carries all of those brands. Was looking at a pair before all this shit hit the fan and will more than likely go back and get them once I can get in there safely. They have more shoes crammed in there than you can imagine but the prices are really good.
