Thanks again everyone for the warm welcome, I see there are more than a few folks on this site with a good sense of humor, Other audio sites I have lurked on seem take everything to seriously.

I am constantly surfing the net in search of spare drivers for these speakers and the search string turned
a thread on this site that you Nando were discussing the Hpm 200's and after returning a couple of times I saw that everyone gets along here so here I am, by the way I reside just north of Courtney on the Island.

I have a few questions that someone may shed light on.
If this isn't the appropriate section of the site to post these questions on please let me know and I will start a new thread in the correct place.

First is the mid ranges, one has the correct numbers, M409 but the other mid is numbered 421 over top of 1006.
physically the only difference between the two drivers is the mounting plate from the M409 has
two holes drilled to allow pins on the driver to lock into while the repeatedly repaired driver has no drilled holes or locking pins. The only other visual difference is that the ridge that the dust cap sits inside is about 1/8" deeper below the mounting plate than the M409's ridge. Sonically there is no difference in the sound between the two drivers and there were no alterations to the mounting holes in the cabinets. What I am curious about is were they made by the same driver manufacturer or would there be two different manufacturers who produced similar drivers. Anyway I think I may have located the original maker and sometime will contact them to find out as i
would like to see if I could get a replacement through them as I would like to have the originals in both speakers.

The metal grill frames are are easily duplicated by any competent sheet metal shop as I have one for a pattern and the plywood frames are easy but I have had no luck in finding replacement grill cloth that match the original grills. So far I have had no luck and wonder if anyone would have any ideas of were to source this cloth from?

My curiosity is up now what is a WOPL? I know, its pure lazyness on my part not to search for the answer
but I am guessing it is something to do with amplification?

Check out this site http://www.newfoam.com. I ordered some oxblood colored cloth from them a few years ago.

What you're looking for may be one of the stretch fabrics they sell which is #2 of the the 3 grill cloth options they show. You will have to scroll to the page bottom to see photos and too bad they're not larger - use the computer's zoom option.

I ordered a sample pack of the type of cloth I wanted and even though I'm in BC. it came quick. It was worth the $5 + postage to be able to see and feel exactly what it was that they were selling.

A White Oaked Phase Linear....our pet name for an old Phase amp totally rebuilt with White Oak Audio driver boards, backplane boards, cap kits, LED light vboard upgrade with improved meter response and a Don Imlay DC protect board.

Simply an incredible amplifier when done...

See you like to mix the old and new technologies too.
I use a similar system for everyday listening.
Flac from the hard drive though JRMC into a ESI Juli@ analog outputs into a SX Pioneer.
Best of both worlds.
I have heard those speakers and they are keepers.
Well worth investing some time into.

I am curious, have you ever tried using Toslink out of your computer, I with a $35 cord and have been very happy with the results, and I resample up to 192khz via jriver .

The original reason I tried it was a fear of leaks sending a surge through to my Nad and speakers since I run water cooling along with 4 case fans to cool 4th gen intel I5 and I rarely get temps. higher than 35 cel. with a hot house and running the machine hard.

I found that the sound was better than usb rca ect. That said I am lucky that I can go from computer to Nad directly with the toslink cable.

Welcome, always nice to see old Pioneer gear and speakers finding new homes and gettin used on a daily basis. :hello1:
 
I use 1970's Pioneers.
Toslink wasn't around then.
My only receiver that uses that is an AV Onkyo that does TV system duty.
 
WOW ... Nice I remember seeing that model new, I always thought they looked excellent, and I was fascinated by the super tweeter.Its nice that you have comitted to their restoration. I would hate to see them be laid to waste.
