New Music and Music Genres

I came across the 3 Mustaphas 3 on one of Riko's "Steal This Disc" collections. I became a fan very quickly. 3M3's essential albums are "Shopping," "Heart of Uncle" and "Soup of the Century."

The incredible James Cronin (Envelope Generator)

In one of my very favorite movies, "The Fifth Element," I got a charge out of the music for the taxi chase scene. It was done by an Algerian fellow, Cheb Khaled, and his band. He is the leading proponent of a genre of music called Rai. I also found this gem of his:

I was wrong about Jim and Bertrand, for they were not my first exposure to world music, if by "world music" you mean anything/everything outside the US of A. No, it was the British folk band Pentangle, like so:

Oddly enough i only discovered Pentangle fairly recently. I was looking for a band called 'OUTBACK' from the 80s... and picked up 'PENTANGLING by PENTANGLE' at the same time.... i like them.... and folk is not my usual thing...most be getting more mellow as i age!

I also like Bonnie Dobson!

Whilst i am online Have you peeps heard 'OUTBACK' ?

Different and enjoyable for a small band! This is termed world music, i saw them live in the 80's at a free music festival in Bristol ( Aston Court ) - I purchased the cassette there and then...

I listened to Outback, and the album cover looked familiar from somewhere. Listening to Bonnie now, but don't like it quite as well.

Bonnie is something a bit like Marmite! Mrs PC does not like either.... Outback is much more easy on the ears.... However i really do like 'Morning Dew' which is an anti nuclear war song by Bonnie Dobson.....

I am glad that you like one of them! :-)

Mwoah...

Nothing new, and it feels a bit like overkill and cheap to me.

But it proves Giorgio Moroder was it's time way ahead in the late seventies.

Maybe I will do new extended version of it without ruining the original version...

Here is one of Shaun's mix tapes, circa 2014, playing back on my Sony TC-K950ES. Shaun appreciates a good disco tune.

Warning: Viewing video may cause epileptic seizure.

Nando.

Ha! And what an excellent light show to go with that tune... :-) Great stuff Nando...

@ Miles - if you can 'Miles' some DISCO tunes.... that would be something else! But you would need to include some Boney M..... just to make it right!!

Boney M isn't right from itself. It was a fraud created by Frank Farian.

How the hell do you think creating a funky mix using stuff like that?

Although this video is still funny:

:clown:

Quality stuff! And may his soul rest in peace...

You cannot have any disco mix without a little taster of Boney M!! It simply isn't cricket.... or the 70's

Proper funk mix is being prepared for you...minus the Boney M of course!! Ha!
